Job Description

Position
COBOL DEVELOPER
Obligations.
The Contractor will:
  • Bring their own computer device and setup a local development environment with appropriate access and development tools.
  • Fetch COBOL source code out of source code control with appropriate access.
  • Identify and implement database changes required to meet business needs of the development requirements.
  • Identify logic changes required to meet business needs. This may include reading and interpreting government technical requirements.
  • Write code to implement needed new logic.
  • Compile and unit test code changes.
  • Promote code from development to test and from test to production.
  • Triage and fix any reported defects from unit and quality testing.
  • Create guides and diagrams to document completed work.
  • Engage in peer code reviews.
  • Provide knowledge transfer.
Duration
 Up to 1 year.
Required Skills
  • Progressive and recent experience in enterprise level software development and configuration using multiple tools and technologies that include COBOL and/or Micro Focus COBOL, SQL, GitHub, and Linux, as well as experience with job scheduling tools, XML, and SFTP file transfer.
  • Communication skills sufficient to understand business needs and functional requirements, to describe the value and proposed solutions to business owners in terms that they understand, and to create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Analytical skills sufficient to assess requirements, alternatives, risks, and make decisions that solve system level problems.
  • Relational database experience sufficient to design changes to the existing database and write complex queries and scripts.
  • Software testing skills sufficient to provide reasonable assurance that products meet business needs before promotion to the test environment.
Desired Skills
  • Experience working independently and collaboratively within a geographically dispersed team.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment with SCRUM processes.
  • Experience with code deployment processes.
  • Experience with the iPaaS integration tools such as Dell Boomi.
  • Experience with enterprise batch scheduling tools such as JAMS.
  • Experience configuring third party vendor products and writing custom APIs.
