Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Paint Automation Supervisor to lead a team of Paint Automation Technicians supporting an automated production paint operation.

This position requires paint application experience, and the ideal candidate would have a mechanical & pneumatics background and/or automation experience with ABB (or similar) robots.  The Supervisor will oversee the performance, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of automated paint application equipment and robotic systems.

The ideal candidate has worked directly in an automated paint facility and understands the interaction between paint application equipment, robotics, mechanical systems, pneumatics, and the overall paint process. This is a working leadership position—the Supervisor will provide direction to the team while remaining hands-on with equipment, troubleshooting, robot maintenance, and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise, coach, and provide technical direction to a team of Paint Automation Technicians.
• Oversee automated paint application processes and robotic paint systems used in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve automated paint equipment to support quality, uptime, and production requirements.
• Provide hands-on troubleshooting of robotic, mechanical, pneumatic, and paint application systems.
• Support the maintenance and programming of industrial robots used in automated paint applications.
• Diagnose paint application and equipment issues and determine root causes of quality, process, or equipment problems.
• Monitor robotic paint equipment and make adjustments necessary to maintain consistent application and product quality.
• Work closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to resolve equipment and process issues.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on paint quality, equipment reliability, cycle time, efficiency, and downtime reduction.
• Assist with equipment modifications, upgrades, installations, and new process launches.
• Ensure preventive maintenance activities are completed on paint automation and robotic equipment.
• Review recurring equipment issues and implement corrective actions to prevent repeat failures.
• Provide technical guidance and training to Paint Automation Technicians.
• Support troubleshooting and recovery when equipment or automated paint processes interrupt production.
• Maintain appropriate technical documentation, procedures, and equipment records.
• Promote safe work practices and ensure team compliance with applicable safety and manufacturing standards.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of hands-on industrial paint application experience
• Previous experience working in a production paint facility or automated paint operation
• Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience troubleshooting and maintaining production equipment.
• Experience with industrial robotic systems used in paint applications; ABB robot experience is highly preferred.
• Understanding of robotic equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, programming, or program adjustments.
• Experience with pneumatic systems and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot paint application issues as well as the equipment responsible for applying the paint.
• Previous experience in maintenance, automation, robotics, or a related hands-on technical discipline.
• Minimum 2–3 years of supervisory, lead, or technical leadership experience.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
• Ability to lead technicians while remaining actively involved in hands-on technical work.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ABB paint robots or comparable industrial robotic paint systems.
• Automotive or high-volume manufacturing experience.
• Experience with automated paint applications
• Previous experience as a Maintenance Technician, Automation Technician, Robot Technician, Paint Technician, or similar technical position
• Experience modifying or troubleshooting robot programs preferred
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance and continuous improvement practices.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, PFMEA, root-cause analysis, and manufacturing quality processes.
• Technical degree, engineering degree, skilled-trades training, or relevant automation/robotics certifications are beneficial but not required
