Quick Overview
Job Description
About PF Global
PF Global gives advice built on deep sector expertise, underpinned by global opinion and economic research, so you can win the arguments that will decide your future.
We are oriented around the debates that will matter most to the future, where the intersection of policy, politics, and regulation will decide what happens. We will tell you honestly what is politically possible (and what is not) and then help make your case by building the research, the story and the campaign that goes with it.
You’ll work alongside colleagues with diverse skills, gain exposure to senior clients, and have real opportunities to develop your career as part of our ambitious and supportive team.
Tech at PF Global
We help some of the world's most influential tech companies navigate a fast-changing policy landscape. Our Tech, Media & Telecoms team works on the issues that define the digital age, from AI and copyright to online safety, digital competition, data and the future of connectivity. These are debates that move quickly, matter enormously, and will shape the UK's economy for years to come.
We combine deep policy and political expertise with our own polling and economic research to help clients understand these debates and win them. Recent projects include measuring the economic impact of major tech platforms in more than 20 countries, estimating TikTok's economic impact in the UK and US, launching YouTube's creator consultation in the UK and Europe, and polling on attitudes to technology and AI for IAB UK and the Centre for Democracy and Technology. We also advise clients on their strategy, campaigns, policy priorities and engagement with government, Parliament and regulators.
The role
We're looking for a senior policy manager who wants more than just a job. You'll be at the heart of our work for some of the world's leading technology companies, with the freedom to shape ideas, develop policy and influence the biggest debates facing tech today.
You'll develop the policy ideas and analysis, briefings and submissions that shape our clients' thinking, and lead their parliamentary activity, from select committee preparation to engagement on legislation. You'll advise clients directly, working closely with our partners and senior advisers, and take ownership of your work from first draft to final advice. This role suits someone who combines sound judgement with the ability to deliver high-quality work at pace.
What you will do
Develop policy: Research issues in depth and develop credible policy positions and original proposals that clients can take to decision makers.
Produce political intelligence: Track Parliament, government and regulators, and write sharp weekly analysis, look-aheads and early warnings of where policy and politics are moving.
Write submissions: Draft consultation responses and evidence to government, parliamentary inquiries and regulators, from first analysis to final version, bringing together input from across the team and client.
Prepare clients for select committees: Write witness packs, including key messages, Q&As and member briefings, and run rehearsal sessions.
Draft engagement materials: Write narratives, position papers, briefing notes, ministerial letters and leave behind materials, and build stakeholder engagement plans.
Advise on political and stakeholder strategy: Help clients decide where to focus, who to engage and how, across core stakeholder groups.
Manage client accounts: Act as a primary point of contact for multiple clients, building trusted relationships with in house policy and public affairs teams and making sure work is delivered on time.
Mentor and develop colleagues: Support junior team members, review their work and help build a high-performing, collaborative team.
Help grow the business: Identify opportunities to expand existing work, contribute to new business pitches, and use your network to bring insight to clients and the team.
What we are looking for
We are looking for someone with 5 to 7 years' relevant experience and the expertise and judgement to advise senior clients.
Parliamentary, policy, or consultancy experience preferred but we’re interested in candidates from different professional backgrounds, provided you can demonstrate a strong understanding of tech policy and a record of delivering substantial work. You might currently work in Parliament, government, a public affairs agency, a technology company, a trade body, a think tank, a regulator or a consultancy.
The successful candidate will bring:
Strong knowledge of UK tech policy and regulation: Including AI, copyright, online safety, digital competition or data.
Public affairs and parliamentary experience: A strong understanding of how Parliament, government and the regulators work in practice, with hands-on experience of submissions, select committees, legislation or public affairs.
Political awareness and judgement: A clear grasp of the current political landscape across the main parties, and the confidence to give honest advice.
Excellent writing and analytical skills: The ability to turn complex material into clear, persuasive arguments, from a one-page brief to a full consultation response.
A hands-on approach: Comfortable drafting substantial pieces of work yourself to tight deadlines, as well as reviewing and improving others' work.
A strong record of delivery: You manage several pieces of work at once, pay close attention to detail, and take ownership of producing high-quality work on time.
Leadership: Experience mentoring or supervising junior colleagues and getting the best out of a team.
Commercial awareness: Experience contributing to business development and account growth.
Network: An existing network of political, policy or industry contacts is desirable.
What the role offers
You will join an experienced, hard-working, supportive team with strong relationships across technology, politics and government, working on some of the most contested policy debates of the moment. You will have direct contact with senior clients, opportunities to work on high-profile issues, and support from colleagues with deep research, policy and political expertise. There is a clear path to Senior Policy Manager for strong performers.
We want someone who will bring their own ideas, challenge our thinking, and help shape what the team does next.
Location and salary
We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, and particularly encourage applications from candidates with disabilities and candidates from ethnic minority backgrounds.
We operate a hybrid working model, with a mix of home and office working. Our main office is based in Embankment. Many of us, including the founders, have young children and we work hard to be genuinely family-friendly.
Salary will depend on experience. For this role we expect salary to range from £46,000 - £57,000, depending on candidate experience.
We also offer a 5% pension contribution, 25 days annual leave, and private healthcare.
How to apply
Please apply below by submitting your CV and a covering letter (of no more than 600 words) setting out how you meet the criteria for the role, including your view on one live UK tech policy issue.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and we encourage early applications.
The interview process will be two stages: a R1 interview including a written task, with successful candidates taking part in a R2 interview. There will also be the opportunity to meet our CEO in the process.
