A sonographer, also known as an ultrasound technician or diagnostic medical sonographer, operates ultrasound equipment to create images of internal organs and tissues, assisting physicians in diagnosing and monitoring medical conditions.
Sonographer
The diagnostic sonographer is a skilled person qualified by academic and clinical training to provide patient services using diagnostic ultrasound under the supervision of a physician responsible for the use and interpretation of ultrasound procedures. The sonographer may be involved with the patients of the physicians in any medical setting of which the physician is responsible.
Qualifications
- 3-6 Months of Sonographer experience required (Acute care experience is not required)
- Basic Cardiac Life Support within 30 days
- Certificate, or Associate Degree in Diagnostic Ultrasound
- ARDMS registry or ARRT (S)
- Registered Vascular Specialist, or Vascular Sonography, or Registered Vascular Technician (RVT) must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date
