Advanced Accountant, Accounting Policy

The purpose of this role is to: 

1.) Lead the development and communication of accounting policies to ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

2.)  Manage a team of professional accountants and/or supervisors performing similar work; coach, mentor, and set performance expectations to meet operational and service-level objectives.

3.) Apply comprehensive understanding of the business and interdependencies with other departments to guide policy application and support business strategies.

4.) Adapt department plans and priorities to meet evolving short-term business needs, while aligning with long-term financial objectives.

5.) Identify and resolve moderately complex technical accounting issues by applying critical thinking and professional judgment.

6.) Evaluate and interpret the broader impact of accounting decisions across the department and organization.

7.) Collaborate with internal and external auditors, legal teams, and business units to resolve technical matters and ensure alignment with corporate standards.

8.) Provide thought leadership and influence across departments to support adoption of consistent accounting practices.

9.) Monitor regulatory and industry developments, and assess potential impacts on the company’s accounting policies and procedures.

10.) Effectively communicate accounting policies, changes, and interpretations to various stakeholders, gaining cooperation and alignment.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
• CPA required (or CPA eligible with active pursuit).
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including technical accounting, financial reporting, accounting policy, or public accounting.
• Extensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
• Demonstrated experience researching and documenting complex accounting issues and preparing technical accounting memoranda.
• Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining accounting policies and procedures.
• Strong understanding of SOX/internal control frameworks and audit requirements.
• Experience partnering with external auditors and resolving technical accounting matters.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and communicate complex accounting concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Experience in large, complex organizations or shared-service environments.
