2069 Plant Manufacturing Engineer (Charlotte NC Metro area)

MANUFACTURING  |  PLANT MAINTENANCE  |  ENGINEERING

Position Summary

The Maintenance Plant Engineer reports directly to the Director of Operations and works closely with the Plant Manager, supervisors, and maintenance team to ensure facility utilities and manufacturing processes operate safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. The role evaluates existing processes, develops improvements, and supports the reliable operation of plant equipment and infrastructure.

All work must comply with OSHA regulations, internal policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and other applicable requirements. This position calls for clear communication, sound judgment under pressure, and effective response to time-sensitive operational issues.

Key Responsibilities

·  Develop a thorough understanding of plant machinery, equipment, and manufacturing processes.

·  Write, maintain, and update SOPs for operators and maintenance technicians.

·  Oversee ongoing equipment and facility maintenance, including preventive maintenance programs and spare-parts inventory.

·  Provide hands-on maintenance support and work closely with maintenance technicians to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and facility issues.

·  Understand the operation of all plant machinery and implement practices that minimize downtime.

·  Support production and volume goals, track KPIs, and contribute as a member of the plant management team.

·  Supervise, train, and support maintenance personnel; train other staff in equipment operation, maintenance, and safety procedures.

·  Evaluate maintenance processes and identify improvements that increase efficiency while meeting budget expectations.

·  Support planning and implementation of facility infrastructure and utility systems for future expansion.

·  Maintain the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

·  Manage capital expenditure (CapEx) projects involving facility, process, and product improvements.

·  Oversee the lockout/tagout (LOTO) program to support OSHA compliance.

Required Skills & Abilities

·  Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles.

·  Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.

·  Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

·  Analytical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.

·  Ability to prioritize work and delegate responsibilities appropriately.

·  Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or comparable software.

·  Ability to travel and coordinate with multiple plant locations.

Education & Experience

·  College degree preferred; significant relevant engineering experience will also be considered.

·  Strong knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

·  Ability to diagnose and repair electrical systems.

·  Ten years of manufacturing industry experience preferred, with a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves approach.

Physical Requirements

·  Ability to access and navigate all areas of a production facility.

·  Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods.

·  Ability to lift at least 20 pounds.
