Job Description

Position Overview:

Google Cloud Platform Engineer to design, implement, and optimize enterprise-scale disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity solutions within Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) environments. This role will be responsible for developing resilient multi-region architectures, defining recovery strategies, conducting failover testing, and partnering with technical and business stakeholders to ensure critical systems meet recovery objectives and operational requirements.

The ideal candidate combines deep cloud infrastructure expertise with strong communication skills, enabling them to translate technical recovery strategies and trade-offs into clear business recommendations for executive stakeholders and decision-makers. 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement enterprise disaster recovery and business continuity architectures across Google Cloud Platform environments.
  • Define recovery strategies aligned with business requirements, Recovery Time Objectives (RTO), and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
  • Architect multi-region and multi-zone solutions that effectively mitigate failure domains and support business resiliency goals.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery runbooks, documentation, and operational procedures.
  • Lead disaster recovery exercises, failover testing, and recovery validation activities.
  • Implement backup, replication, and recovery solutions utilizing native Google Cloud Platform services and best practices.
  • Design resilient networking architectures with automated routing and failover capabilities.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, application, security, and operations teams to ensure recovery readiness across platforms.
  • Establish monitoring, alerting, and operational visibility for disaster recovery environments.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to evaluate risk, downtime tolerances, and recovery investment decisions.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on cloud resiliency, availability, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Evaluate and optimize DR solutions to balance recovery capabilities with infrastructure and operational costs.

Qualifications:Required Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of cloud architecture fundamentals including Google Cloud Platform regions, zones, multi-region design, and mapping failure domains to disaster recovery strategies.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform redundancy and recovery services including:
    • Persistent Disk snapshots and snapshot policies
    • Cloud Storage multi-region and dual-region buckets with versioning
    • Cloud SQL cross-region replicas
    • GKE multi-cluster and multi-region deployments
    • Backup and DR Service
  • Expertise in networking and failover routing including:
    • Global HTTP(S) Load Balancing
    • Cloud DNS with health checks
    • Cross-region Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) architectures
    • Cloud Interconnect and VPN solutions for hybrid cloud environments
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform (OpenTofu experience acceptable) and GitLab.
  • Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and operational experience including:
    • Defining and meeting RTO and RPO targets
    • Performing failover and disaster recovery drills
    • Implementing monitoring and alerting using Cloud Monitoring and Cloud Logging
    • Managing Identity and Access Management (IAM) and security controls across regions
  • Experience balancing resiliency requirements against cloud infrastructure and operational costs.
  • Proven ability to lead disaster recovery planning initiatives and facilitate business continuity discussions with stakeholders.
  • Strong documentation skills with the ability to create clear recovery procedures and operational runbooks.
  • Google Professional Cloud Architect certification.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical recovery options and trade-offs into business-relevant recommendations for non-technical audiences. Nice to Have:
  • Strong technical foundation and experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services.
  • Experience designing multi-cloud resiliency and disaster recovery strategies.
