Java Solutions Architect
Location: Chicago, Illinois (On-site)
Role Overview
An experienced Java Solutions Architect is required to define target architectures, reference patterns, and technical standards for AI-augmented applications across a transactional foreign exchange platform. The successful candidate will design reusable agentic AI frameworks that support prompt and context management, tool integration, human review, testing, traceability, security, and observability. This position involves leading the design, development, modernization, and integration of core banking systems in a globally distributed environment.
Key Responsibilities

• Define target architectures, reference patterns, and technical standards for AI-augmented applications across the transactional platform.
• Design reusable agentic AI frameworks supporting prompt and context management, tool integration, human review, testing, traceability, security, and observability.
• Evaluate secure applications of AI to improve engineering productivity, operational processes, and platform capabilities.
• Lead the design, development, modernization, and integration of Java-based applications and C++ services.
• Develop high-quality software, automated tests, and well-defined interfaces that integrate reliably with the broader application ecosystem.
• Translate business requirements into practical architecture, refined stories, acceptance criteria, estimates, and delivery plans.
• Conduct technical spikes and proofs of concept to validate new ideas and reduce delivery risk.
• Improve CI/CD practices including branching, pull requests, issue triage, merge-conflict resolution, release documentation, and deployment controls.
• Provide technical direction, resolve complex design challenges, and mentor engineers across globally distributed teams.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline.
Experience: Fifteen or more years of experience developing server-side Java applications, including significant architecture or technical leadership responsibility. Demonstrated experience applying AI to software architecture and engineering is required.
Technical Skills: Expertise in core Java on Linux/UNIX environments, including Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, JVM tuning, garbage collection, multithreading, algorithms, and data structures. Proficiency in modern C++ with strong knowledge of memory management, concurrency, and complex system design is required. Experience with SQL, relational-data modeling, and enterprise messaging systems such as IBM MQ, JMS, AMPS, Kafka, or TIBCO is also necessary.
Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Python development, particularly in production-grade services, automation, analytics, or Quartz-based systems.
• Experience designing and delivering secure, governed agentic AI solutions in a regulated environment.
• Experience with distributed, low-latency, high-availability trading systems, including algorithmic execution, trade lifecycle management, pricing, or risk management.
• Experience with FIX, KDB+/Q, Quartz, Google Guava, React, or JavaScript.
