A Sonographer, also known as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or Ultrasound Technician, uses ultrasound technology to create images of internal body structures for medical diagnosis and monitoring. They operate specialized equipment to produce and record these images, which are then used by physicians to evaluate various conditions, including pregnancy, heart problems, and other medical disorders.
Sonographer
The diagnostic sonographer is a skilled person qualified by academic and clinical training to provide patient services using diagnostic ultrasound under the supervision of a physician responsible for the use and interpretation of ultrasound procedures. The sonographer may be involved with the patients of the physicians in any medical setting of which the physician is responsible.
Qualifications
- 3-6 Months of Sonographer experience required (Acute care experience is not required)
- Basic Cardiac Life Support within 30 days
- Certificate, or Associate Degree in Diagnostic Ultrasound
- ARDMS registry or ARRT (S)
- Registered Vascular Specialist, or Vascular Sonography, or Registered Vascular Technician (RVT) must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date
