Role Overview

Barclays is looking for an experienced Senior Extranet Networking Engineer to join its Specialised Infrastructure team. The successful candidate will design, support and improve secure network connectivity for business-critical trading platforms.

The role requires strong networking, routing and Firewall knowledge, along with an understanding of low-latency and high-frequency trading environments. You will work closely with business stakeholders, internal Cyber Security teams and external partners to ensure network connectivity meets performance, reliability and security standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and support secure Extranet network connectivity for external clients and trading platforms.

• Develop and maintain network designs and connectivity standards.

• Configure, troubleshoot and support TCP/IP, routing, DNS and BGP.

• Monitor network latency, packet loss, jitter and connectivity performance.

• Implement and troubleshoot Firewall policies, NAT and access control rules.

• Support VPN technologies, including IPSec, SSL and site-to-site VPNs.

• Manage TLS/SSL certificates and troubleshoot secure connectivity issues.

• Support exchange trading venue connectivity and multicast market data feeds.

• Use Linux/Unix tools, logs and packet captures to investigate network issues.

• Work with Cyber Security, risk management teams and third-party providers.

• Participate in incident management, change management and weekend support activities.

• Support network monitoring, automation and performance improvement initiatives.

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing and DNS.

• Working knowledge of BGP peering, route advertisement and troubleshooting.

• Understanding of low-latency networking, packet loss, jitter and path selection.

• Hands-on experience with Firewalls, security policies, NAT and access controls.

• Experience supporting IPSec, SSL and site-to-site VPNs.

• Knowledge of TLS/SSL and certificate management.

• Operational experience with Linux/Unix systems.

• Ability to analyze logs, alerts and packet captures.

• Understanding of incident and change management processes.

• Experience with external client connectivity, trading venues or multicast market data feeds.
