ABOUT US:
With a mission to enrich the cultural life of our region, Birmingham Hippodrome is one of the most popular theatre complexes in the UK. Varied productions in our 1,850-seat auditorium (dating from 1899), and in our 200-seat Patrick Studio ensure we play a key role in the region’s world-class cultural scene. With c.400 live performances annually in our main house, we present nothing but the best in touring musical theatre, ballet, dance, opera, pantomime, drama, and comedy. Our Patrick Studio welcomes a range of smaller-scale productions and is an important base for dance and for the development of new artistic work.

ABOUT THE OPPOURTUNITY:
Looking for a role where you can make meaningful impact and make your mark on one of our most important areas of fundraising as a charity?
This opportunity will be particularly attractive to those looking to take ownership of an Individual Giving portfolio working closely with the Head of Department and Director of Creative Programmes. By the end of the 12 month contract, we anticipate you will leave a distinct legacy.
It’s the perfect role for someone looking to strengthen their experience in this highly visible area of Fundraising. You will have direct exposure to our highest-level donors and the chance to see incredible creative projects come to life because of your influence.
You’ll be working in a skilled team within the Creative Programmes Directorate. A typical day might see you collaborating with colleagues across teams including Festivals, Learning & Participation, New Musical Theatre, New Work & Artist Development, Youth, Community, Marketing, Communications and Information & Sales. This is a substantial opportunity and whether you are an experienced interim, considering your next move, returning to work or exploring a new sector, we’d love to hear from you.
You’ll play a significant role in two digital public campaigns, a fundraising gala for 100 guests, oversee a popular membership scheme with scope for further growth, drive forward two supporter Circles, steward at cultivation events, identify and onboard hot prospects into an active pipeline and supporter journey with us.
It’s the chance to make an immediate and lasting impact at one of the UK’s busiest regional theatres that has a deep commitment to its charitable ambitions for the benefit of all communities in Birmingham and the West Midlands region.
Our terms mean that you will be able to work on a hybrid basis, with the option to compress your hours over 4 days.
ABOUT THE TEAM:
The Fundraising & Development team believe in the positive power of creativity to change lives; they're ambitious, love a challenge, and enjoy putting the fun into fund-raising! A recent achievement has been securing HSBC as a principal partner for the Birmingham Weekender 2026 festival. An upcoming project is the Big Give Christmas Challenge in early December – which supports the work of the Hippodrome Education Network (HEN), who provide young people with the chance to experience and connect with theatre in schools.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
🗝️ Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
🗝️ Maternity cover contract - expected to be 12 months
🗝️ Hybrid, with a minimum of 2 days onsite per week, plus events work
🗝️ Some evenings needed for on-site events and gala nights. Weekend commitments are rare and plenty of notice is given.
🗝️ The successful candidate must have, or be willing to undergo, a Basic DBS check.

ABOUT YOU:
We're looking for someone with direct experience of securing gifts and donations, including initiating, building and stewarding relationships with individual donors. You'll have experience of working with a target driven environment, researching and writing high-quality, well-structured and persuasive communication assets, as well as experience of organising and promoting significant fundraising events.
