Job description

Security Architecture Director

Location: London (4 days per week in office)
Salary: Circa £120,000 + Bonus + Benefits
Employment Type: Permanent

The Opportunity

We are working with a large, international organisation looking to appoint an experienced Security Architecture Director to help shape and strengthen its approach to enterprise security.

This is an influential leadership opportunity within a complex technology environment, offering the chance to drive security improvements across major transformation programmes, modern cloud platforms and emerging technologies.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with the ability to lead experienced security professionals, influence senior stakeholders and turn security strategy into practical, scalable solutions.

Importantly, this is not a purely strategic or governance-focused position. You will remain closely involved in technical architecture decisions, working alongside engineering and technology teams to ensure security solutions are both effective and commercially practical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop an established security architecture capability, providing direction, technical guidance and leadership to a team of experienced professionals.
  • Shape the organisation's long-term security architecture approach, identifying opportunities to improve security across its technology environment.
  • Work closely with senior technology leaders, architects and engineering teams to assess proposed solutions and guide security-related design decisions.
  • Provide architectural expertise across cloud infrastructure, enterprise applications, identity management, networks and data protection.
  • Help establish consistent security practices and technical controls that can be adopted across multiple technology teams.
  • Support the secure adoption of new technologies, particularly AI and automation, addressing associated risks and security considerations.

Experience & Skills Required

  • Significant experience in cybersecurity, with a strong background in enterprise security architecture and technical leadership.
  • Previous experience managing or leading security architects, technical specialists or multidisciplinary security teams.
  • Broad architectural knowledge spanning cloud security, infrastructure, applications, networking, identity and data protection.
  • Strong experience with public cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure or GCP, alongside complex hybrid environments.
  • A solid understanding of modern engineering practices, including DevSecOps, cloud-native security, infrastructure automation and security architecture design.
  • Knowledge of emerging AI security challenges, including generative AI, data exposure, access controls and protecting AI-enabled applications.
  • Experience reviewing complex technical designs, assessing potential security weaknesses and advising on suitable controls.
  • Familiarity with established cybersecurity principles, industry frameworks and architectural methodologies.
  • Ability to work at both strategic and technical levels, remaining comfortable engaging in detailed solution discussions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing senior technology leaders and communicating complex security matters clearly.

The Ideal Candidate

  • You are likely to be operating at Director, Head of Security Architecture or senior enterprise security leadership level within a large, technically complex organisation.
  • You will have experience balancing long-term technology strategy with hands-on architectural involvement and will be comfortable leading teams while maintaining strong technical credibility.
  • Experience within a large multinational, technology-led or regulated organisation would be particularly relevant.

Package

  • Base salary circa £120,000
  • Performance-related bonus
  • Additional benefits package
  • Opportunity to influence security architecture across a large international technology environment

Location: London, with four days per week in the office.
