Job Description

We are seeking an experienced CockroachDB DBA to design, deploy, operate, and scale distributed CockroachDB clusters in production environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in multi-region database management, high availability, disaster recovery, performance optimization, and automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, operate, and scale multi-region CockroachDB clusters in production environments.

  • Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and data consistency across globally distributed clusters.

  • Monitor cluster health, latency, replication status, and resource utilization using observability tools.

  • Perform capacity planning and proactively scale database infrastructure to support future growth.

  • Troubleshoot node failures, network partitions, leaseholder and range imbalance, replication lag, hotspotting, and performance bottlenecks.

  • Design and implement disaster recovery strategies, including multi-region failover and fallback.

  • Implement and test backup, restore, and point-in-time recovery procedures.

  • Automate cluster provisioning, scaling, patching, and upgrades.

  • Perform rolling upgrades with zero or minimal downtime.

  • Optimize SQL queries and database schemas to improve performance and efficiency.

  • Create operational runbooks, standard operating procedures, and on-call playbooks.

  • Participate in on-call rotations, production incident response, and root cause analysis.

Required Qualifications

  • 6–8 years of relevant database administration or database engineering experience.

  • Strong hands-on experience with CockroachDB.

  • Experience managing distributed databases and multi-region production clusters.

  • Knowledge of high availability, replication, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery.

  • Experience with database monitoring, performance troubleshooting, and capacity planning.

  • Ability to automate database operations and manage production upgrades.

  • Strong problem-solving and incident management skills.
