Software Engineer - Fabric

Software Engineer, Microsoft Fabric Platform and Services

Remote (EST hours strongly preferred)

Contract: 6-12 months

Compensation: $40 - $50 per hour

ABOUT THE ROLE

Join the Global Fabric product team at a leading professional services firm as a Software Engineer focused on Microsoft Fabric Platform and Services. You will be part of a small, agile team (4-5 developers and 1 QA) operating in a Kanban-style environment with no formal process flow. The team is responsible for developing and maintaining the firm's enterprise-wide Fabric platform, with a strong emphasis on spec-driven, AI-assisted development. This is not a traditional developer role with clearly defined tickets; instead, you will proactively identify, shape, and drive initiatives from concept through implementation. Success in this role requires a hunter mindset-curiosity, adaptability, and a passion for owning outcomes. You will have the opportunity to work across Microsoft platforms, leverage AI coding tools, and help shape innovative solutions that deliver measurable business value. WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Lead and execute small implementation initiatives end-to-end, including research, proposal, development, and delivery
• Build user-facing interfaces and automation tools that enable users to trigger tasks with a single action, including platform engineering work integrating Fabric with GitHub and automating admin tasks
• Configure and administer the Microsoft Fabric platform, working across Fabric, Power BI, and Azure portals
• Develop solutions in Fabric using Python notebooks (not containerized code)
• Contribute to team knowledge transfer, certifications, and share learnings with team members
• Utilize AI coding tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, Copilot, ChatGPT) as a normal part of your workflow and help advance AI-assisted development practices within the team
• Engage directly with stakeholders to shape solutions and deliver measurable business value
• Adapt to a flexible, Kanban-style team environment with minimal formal process and collaborate closely with team members working EST hours
• Participate in the team's backlog around knowledge transfer and certifications, and teach what you learn back to the team

WHAT YOU BRING

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft platforms, including Azure, Fabric, and Power BI portals; ability to configure and administer these environments
• Full SDLC implementation experience, with the ability to take solutions from concept to advanced stages
• Proficiency in Python; experience with .NET/C# is a plus
• Demonstrated use of AI coding tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, Copilot, ChatGPT) and a strong interest in AI-assisted development
• Proven adaptability across multiple roles and technologies, with a track record of designing, proposing, improving, or owning solutions
• Comfort working in a small, flexible team without formal process flows; ability to work EST hours preferred
• Strong initiative, problem-solving skills, and the ability to independently drive projects from research to delivery
• Excellent communication skills for engaging with stakeholders and sharing knowledge with the team
• Experience building user-facing interfaces and automation, including platform engineering work integrating with GitHub
• Familiarity with Databricks portal is a plus
• Not a fit for those seeking pure data engineering/analytics roles or those who prefer clearly defined, repetitive tasks
