Roku/Brightscript Engineer

Principal Engineers / Staff Engineers specializing in the Roku BrightScript Platform. Candidates must fulfill the following non-negotiable prerequisites prior to engagement commencement:

● Demonstrable evidence of architecting a streaming application (or application of equivalent complexity).

● At least one (1) successfully shipped Roku application currently in the field that passed full Roku Channel Certification.

● Successful completion of a practical code review assessment during the Vendor hiring process to verify technical capabilities.

Engagement Duration & Continuity

Both resources must be engaged continuously for an estimated 9 to 10 months (covering Q3 2026 through Q2 2027) to preserve end-to-end architectural context.

Resource Availability & Quality Penalties:

Due to the strategic nature of this program, specific financial and operational penalties (TBD) will be associated with resource quality deficiencies and/or unplanned attrition.

● Unplanned Departures: In the event of a resource departure, the Vendor must present a qualified substitute matching the original skills verification criteria within five (5) business days, subject to written authorization from the client.

● Mandatory Handover: Any approved substitute must complete a structured handover period of no less than ten (10) business days overlapping with the departing resource, executed entirely at the Vendor’s own cost.

Weekly Commitment

Both resources are required to maintain a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week per resource, subject to the client working day and holiday calendar

Technical Competency Matrix

Resources must possess expert-level, production-proven command in the following domains:

● Thread Isolation & Performance Tuning: Deep mastery of the Roku SceneGraph threading model; proven success enforcing render thread isolation and offloading network operations, payload parsing, and data orchestration to asynchronous Task nodes on constrained 512MB/A53-class hardware.

● Memory Management: Advanced diagnostics and prevention of circular reference leaks, unmanaged node lifecycles, and observeField leaks using the BrightScript Profiler and sg-node telnet inspection.

● Contract-Driven Architecture: Competency designing decoupled, componentized BrightScript architectures using immutable data models and explicit field-change contracts to isolate UI presentation from data infrastructure.

● Legacy Translation: Proven experience reverse-engineering behavioral requirements from reference C++ or native SDK codebases and re-implementing them with equivalent correctness and performance in native BrightScript.

● AI-Driven Development: Ability to define and drive specification-driven development utilizing AI tools is highly preferred.
