Job Description

Onmo believes that everyone has the right to access, understand and manage their money with confidence. Our ambition is to improve lives by providing better clarity, intelligence and technology to empower every individual in making the smartest financial decisions. We may be young but we have an incredible team in place and big ambitions for the years ahead.

We design our products to help demystify money matters wherever possible, providing customers with more financial control and flexibility in their lives. This helps them get more from what they have, or with smart decisions, make more of the same. It also means people spend less time with the negative aspects of money and more on the positive - enjoying what the world has to offer.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Onmo is looking for a Fraud and Financial Crime Case Officer to join our in-house Fraud and Financial Crime team, focusing primarily on application referrals, ongoing screening reviews and other high-volume casework. This role is not a general customer service role. Ideally, the successful candidate will have previous hands-on experience working fraud, AML or financial crime cases within a bank, fintech, card issuer, lender, regulated financial services business or a specialist outsourced operation supporting financial services clients.

The Fraud and Financial Crime Case Officer will review cases across the application stage and customer lifecycle, using Onmo's procedures, templates and systems to reach fair, consistent and well-evidenced outcomes. The role requires clear written English, strong attention to detail and complete, audit-ready case notes that explain the rationale for each decision. As part of the team, you will work closely with colleagues across Compliance, Customer Operations and Credit Risk, and help improve the procedures and controls the team relies on.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently work fraud and financial crime referrals from applications and in-life accounts in line with Onmo standards, playbooks and agreed service levels.

  • Review onboarding referrals, including biometric checks, identity concerns, device-risk indicators, adverse fraud indicators and other fraud or AML flags requiring manual assessment.

  • Complete ongoing screening and bulk review tasks, including potential PEP, sanctions, adverse media and fraud database matches, escalating true or higher-risk matches through the agreed route.

  • Use industry prevention and mitigation tools and systems to support investigation and decision-making.

  • Conduct objective, fair and timely investigations into potential fraud and financial crime concerns, balancing the protection of Onmo with fair treatment of genuine customers.

  • Record clear, concise and complete case notes using Onmo templates, including the checks completed, evidence reviewed, decision reached and rationale for the outcome.

  • Identify and escalate unusual patterns, repeat indicators, process gaps or emerging fraud typologies to the Fraud and Financial Crime Team Lead or Head of Fraud and Financial Crime.

  • Act decisively to minimise fraud loss, customer harm and operational risk, escalating urgent or high-risk cases promptly.

  • Support wider fraud and financial crime operations when required, including account reviews, first-party fraud indicators, account takeover concerns, disputes/chargeback triage, reporting support or other fraud tasks appropriate to training and permissions.

FCA COMPLIANCE & CONSUMER DUTY

At Onmo we all take collective responsibility for our individual roles in creating the best outcomes for our customers. In this role that involves;

  • Identifying and raising risk events in a timely manner when spotted

  • Ensuring SMCR processes are followed

  • Keeping up to date with changes in relevant regulatory rules
