Job Summary:

BARBRI is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to help build the future of legal education through AI-assisted, outcome-driven digital experiences. Working within an empowered cross-functional team, this role partners closely with Product, Design, Engineering, and Subject Matter Experts to shape solutions from initial discovery through production and ongoing evolution

The ideal candidate is a strong full-stack engineer who combines deep technical expertise with product thinking, sound judgment, and hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools. This role requires someone who takes ownership of outcomes, contributes to technical and product direction, and thrives in a fast-moving environment where experimentation, collaboration, and continuous learning are essential

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for current or future employer sponsorship. This role does not offer visa sponsorship, and temporary work authorization is not eligible.
This is a full-time position with expectations for consistent availability, responsiveness, and collaboration during business hours. Occasional travel may be required.

Location: Remote/Hybrid - Eagan, MN.
Salary: $125,000 - $145,000

Job Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Product, Design, and Subject Matter Experts during discovery to help define problems, evaluate opportunities, and shape solutions

  • Own the technical design and delivery of products and features from discovery and prototyping through release and ongoing optimization

  • Bring technical expertise and innovative thinking to identify solutions and opportunities enabled by emerging technologies, particularly AI

  • Serve as technical lead on projects when needed, setting technical direction, coordinating engineering work, and maintaining alignment across teams

  • Use AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows as part of the daily engineering process while maintaining accountability for code quality and outcomes

  • Develop prototypes and working software early to validate ideas, gather feedback, and inform product and technical decisions

  • Design and build scalable, secure, high-performing applications using modern .NET, C#, TypeScript, and front-end technologies

  • Contribute to product and platform architecture while collaborating with architecture and engineering teams to maintain consistency and technical integrity

  • Mentor engineers and contribute to technical design discussions, code reviews, and engineering best practices

  • Identify and communicate technical risks, evaluate trade-offs, estimate work effectively, and balance technical complexity with business priorities

  • Monitor solutions in production, evaluate performance and user outcomes, and continuously improve the products and experiences delivered

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

  • 5+ years of full-stack web application development experience with a strong understanding of software design principles and technical trade-offs

  • Deep proficiency with C# and the .NET ecosystem, including experience building microservices using modern .NET

  • Experience developing rich front-end applications using Vue and/or Angular with modern TypeScript

  • Hands-on experience building scalable, high-performance web applications on Microsoft Azure

  • Experience with containerized workloads and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)

  • Experience with infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipelines using platforms such as Azure DevOps or GitHub

  • Working knowledge of modern identity management, access controls, security protocols, and secure software development practices

  • Hands-on experience incorporating AI coding tools and agentic workflows into day-to-day software development

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver software projects from technical design through production

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:

  • Experience building and deploying AI or LLM-powered functionality into production environments

  • Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation, AI agents, prompt systems, and evaluation methodologies

  • Experience working within EdTech, legal technology, regulated industries, or other complex digital environments

  • Experience collaborating closely with Product, Design, and domain experts in an iterative product development model

  • Experience serving as a technical lead or providing mentorship and technical guidance to other engineers

  • Demonstrated ability to independently learn and apply emerging technologies

  • Experience balancing technical architecture, scalability, security, user experience, and business requirements
