Help Shape the Future of Britain's Railway

Rail Delivery Group (RDG) partners with Britain’s train operators to put customers at the heart of everything we do, delivering essential services and dedicated experts who keep the nation’s railway running efficiently.

From journey information, reservations and Railcards to improving performance, safety and accessibility, we drive the services and people that keep the railway moving. Anyone who has travelled by train or booked a journey for friends or family, will have used our services. We are integral to the running of the railway and play a crucial part at every stage of the customer journey – making sure we are delivering a better railway for all our customers, now and in the future.
As we embark on a new era for rail, we are now looking for a Passenger Demand Forecasting Scheme Manager on a fixed-term maternity cover basis to join us. If you are motivated by meaningful work and want to play a role in the future of Britain's railway, we'd love to hear from you!

What is the purpose of this job?

The Passenger Demand Forecasting Scheme is an industry-led initiative that brings together train operators, government bodies and wider stakeholders to develop and maintain a shared evidence base for forecasting rail demand. Through research, guidance and collaboration, it supports consistent, robust and evidence-led forecasting across the rail industry, enabling better-informed decisions on revenue, service planning and investment.
Working closely with the Demand Insights Lead, you will support the effective delivery, governance and continuous improvement of the Scheme. You will coordinate its research portfolio, governance, finances, systems and stakeholder engagement, ensuring priorities, risks and delivery requirements are effectively managed.

What can I expect to do in this job?

No two days are quite the same, but some of the things you will be involved in include:

  • Act as the first point of contact for the Scheme Chair, Executive Group and members, supporting stakeholder relationships and coordinating membership administration.
  • Lead the delivery of Scheme events and meetings.
  • Maintain and improve the Scheme's governance framework, including its Rules, policies, procedures and supporting processes.
  • Oversee Scheme datasets and systems, including their development, access arrangements and supplier support contracts.
  • Coordinate portfolio-level oversight of the Scheme's research projects, including progress reporting, risks, dependencies and communication of outputs.
  • Manage Scheme finances, including budget monitoring, expenditure control, membership renewals, invoicing and financial planning.
  • Maintain and develop Scheme websites, collaboration spaces, document libraries, contact records and member resources.

We are less interested in ticking every box and more interested in finding someone who can make a positive contribution to our team.

You'll be comfortable managing a broad and varied portfolio, continually assessing priorities and making sure key issues are handled quickly and effectively. You'll likely bring:

Essential

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across a range of organisations and levels.
  • Experience managing projects, programmes or portfolios, including planning, reporting, risk and issue management, and tracking delivery.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting governance processes, including meetings, papers, actions and decision tracking.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience of budget monitoring, financial administration and supplier management.

Desirable

  • Experience of planning and delivering events, workshops or stakeholder forums.
  • Familiarity with the Passenger Demand Forecasting Scheme, PDF Handbook and associated datasets and systems.
  • Knowledge of the rail industry and/or demand forecasting.
  • Experience of using Smartsheet or a similar project and portfolio management tool.

Why Work for RDG?
