Security Systems Administrator - Permanent - Durham, NC - $120,000 - $140,000

Our client is seeking a Security Systems Administrator in Durham, NC.

Role Description

The Security Systems Administrator is responsible for designing, implementing, administering, and continuously improving the organization's cybersecurity capabilities with a primary focus on Identity and Access Management (IAM), Microsoft Purview, and Vulnerability Management. Design and implement data classification, sensitivity labeling, and data protection strategies across Microsoft 365 services. Monitor and investigate policy violations, compliance alerts, and security incidents involving sensitive business information.

Partner with InfoSec, HR, and business stakeholders to support data governance and regulatory compliance initiatives. Develop reporting and dashboards to measure data protection effectiveness and compliance program maturity. Administer and support enterprise IAM solutions, including Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Active Directory, Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Conditional Access, and Privileged Access Management (PAM) with CyberArk.

Design, implement, and maintain identity governance processes, including user lifecycle management, role-based access controls (RBAC), access reviews, and privileged account management. Monitor and remediate identity-related security risks, unauthorized access attempts, and authentication anomalies. Collaborate with Human Resources and business stakeholders to ensure timely provisioning, modification, and deprovisioning of user access. Develop and maintain access control policies, standards, and procedures aligned with security and compliance requirements.

Lead the organization's vulnerability management program across servers, endpoints, cloud environments, applications, and network infrastructure. Perform vulnerability assessments using approved scanning and security monitoring tools. Analyze security findings, determine risk levels, and prioritize remediation efforts based on business impact and threat exposure. Collaborate with Infrastructure, Application Owners, and third-party vendors to coordinate remediation activities.

Track remediation progress and provide executive-level reporting on vulnerability trends, risk exposure, and remediation performance. Validate corrective actions and ensure vulnerabilities are properly remediated within established service-level objectives. Evaluate, implement, and maintain security technologies and controls that support organizational cybersecurity objectives. Monitor security alerts, logs, and events from various security tools and platforms. Develop and maintain security documentation, system configurations, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures.

Skills & Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
5+ years of experience in information security, cybersecurity engineering, systems administration, or related technical roles.
3+ years of experience supporting Identity and Access Management solutions. Experience managing enterprise vulnerability management programs and remediation processes. Experience with cloud security technologies, preferably Microsoft Azure.

Knowledge of NIST Cybersecurity Framework and CIS Controls.

Identity Governance
Implements and manages secure identity lifecycle processes while ensuring appropriate access controls and regulatory compliance. Evaluates complex technical problems, identifies root causes, and develops effective security solutions. Understands business risk and prioritizes security initiatives based on organizational impact and threat exposure. Communicates technical concepts effectively to technical and non-technical audiences, including executive leadership.

Builds strong partnerships across IT, Compliance, HR, Legal, and business functions to achieve security objectives.
