Job Description

Title: Linux Engineer VMware to Nutanix Migration Location: The Woodlands, TX, New Orleans, LA, Little Rock, AR or Jackson, MS

Must be willing to go to the office 1 day/week

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Linux Engineer to support and execute the migration of enterprise workloads from VMware environments to Nutanix AHV infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess strong Linux administration expertise, virtualization knowledge, migration experience, and the ability to work closely with infrastructure, application, and operations teams to ensure a smooth transition with minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities:
Plan, design, and execute migration activities from VMware vSphere/ESXi to Nutanix AHV.
Assess existing Linux servers, applications, and dependencies before migration.
Perform VM discovery, inventory analysis, and workload mapping.
Build, configure, and maintain Linux systems on Nutanix infrastructure.
Troubleshoot migration-related issues involving operating systems, storage, networking, and virtualization layers.
Configure and maintain Linux services, including DNS, NTP, SSH, Web servers (Apache/Nginx) and Application services
Support automation and scripting activities using Bash, Python, or Ansible.
Validate system performance, availability, and security after migration.
Collaborate with storage, network, security, and application teams during migration projects.
Create technical documentation, migration runbooks, and operational procedures.
Monitor and optimize Linux workloads running on Nutanix AHV.
Participate in change management, testing, and production cutover activities.

Required Skills:
5+ years of hands-on Linux administration experience.
Strong knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu
Experience with system performance tuning and troubleshooting.
Strong experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi and vCenter Administration
Experience with VM provisioning, clustering, HA, and DR technologies.
Experience with Nutanix AHV, Nutanix Prism Central, Prism Element and Nutanix Move
Knowledge of Nutanix storage, networking, and cluster operations.
Good experience with Automation & Scripting (Bash Shell Scripting, Python, Ansible). Infrastructure automation experience preferred.
Hands on experience in Networking & Storage - TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, SAN/NAS storage concepts
Excellent Network troubleshooting skills
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) is a plus.
Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, or Grafana.
