ABOUT THIS ROLE

This role is for a Junior Infrastructure Engineer.

Candidates must hold current TSPV security clearance.

Infrastructure Engineers implement, manage and retire the infrastructure (including physical, virtual, networking and cloud infrastructure) that supports digital services.

These roles involve shift work.

Candidates must be willing to undergo ASD's Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA). The OSA requires a psychological assessment, which involves a questionnaire and an interview. Before submitting an application for this role, the candidate should consider their preparedness for questions that may include the following topics: personal relationships, living circumstances, personal values, financial situation, physical and mental health history including substance use, and any civil and/or military record.

Working arrangements will be at the discretion of the assigned work area, subject to operational need. Due to the nature of ASD's operations, not all work areas can accommodate work from home.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is the federal agency responsible for foreign signals intelligence, cyber warfare and information security. ASD's purpose is to defend Australia from global threats and help advance our national interests.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of a complex ICT environment containing both CISCO and Juniper based networking systems, as well as Cryptographic Networking devices.
  • With guidance, monitor the reliability of systems using standard procedures and tools to carry out defined system configuration, backups and restoring data where necessary. This includes the use of network management tools to collect and report on load and performance statistics.
  • With guidance, capture and respond to incidents, problems and changes within the IT service management platform. This includes administration of accounts and permissions.
  • Contribute to the dentification of operational problems and contribute to their resolution.
  • Assist in documenting existing and new features and processes related to system support and enhancement.
Technical Skills
  • Experience in administering CISCO and/or Juniper networking systems and core ICT network infrastructure.
  • Experience in monitoring network infrastructure, using tools such as Solarwinds, CICSO Transport Controller and SPLUNK
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED
  • IT infrastructure: Level 3 (SFIA) Provisions/installs, configures and maintains infrastructure services and components. Monitors, measures and reports on infrastructure load, performance and security events. Identifies operational issues and contributes to their resolution. Carries out agreed operational procedures, including backup/restore, using supplied infrastructure tools and scripts. Carries out agreed system software maintenance tasks. Automates routine system administration tasks to specifications using standard tools and basic scripting.
  • Programming/software development: Level 2 (SFIA) Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends and refactors simple programs/scripts. Applies agreed standards and tools to achieve a well-engineered result. Reviews own work.
  • Systems installation and removal: Level 3 (SFIA) Installs or removes hardware and/or software, using supplied installation instructions and tools, including handover to the client. Uses standard procedures and diagnostic tools to test installations, correct problems, and document results. Records details of all components that have been installed and removed. Assists users and follows agreed procedures for further help or escalation. Contributes to the development of installation procedures and standards.
