Job description
About Teneo
Teneo is the global CEO advisory firm. We partner with our clients globally to do great things for a better future.
Drawing upon our global team and expansive network of senior advisors, we provide advisory services across our five business segments on a stand-alone or fully integrated basis to help our clients solve complex business challenges. Our clients include a significant number of the Fortune 100 and FTSE 100, as well as other corporations, financial institutions and organizations.
Our full range of advisory services includes strategic communications, investor relations, financial transactions and restructuring, management consulting, physical and cyber risk, organizational design, board and executive search, geopolitics and government affairs, corporate governance and ESG.
The firm has more than 1,800 employees located in 50+ offices around the world.
The Opportunity
Teneo's San Francisco office is growing, and the Senior Vice President will be one of the people who shapes it. You will work with a small, senior team that helps technology companies through moments of significant transition. Our clients are also rethinking what communications means inside their companies, and this role gives you a front-row seat to that work. You will do excellent client work now and help build the office's reputation in the Bay Area over time.
Who We're Looking For
Someone who understands how technology companies work from the inside, especially dynamic startups and their founders. The strongest candidates have built or rebuilt something: a team, a function, a process, or a way of working. We value in-house experience at technology companies, and we also welcome agency and advisory professionals with deep tech-client experience who bring the same builder's mindset.
Responsibilities
- Manage complex strategic communications planning and execution, using every lever together: earned media, social, events, executive visibility, and non-traditional media such as podcasts, newsletters, and online video.
- Oversee day-to-day account work and make sure deliverables are high quality, including strategic plans, messaging frameworks, press releases, talking points, presentations, Q&A documents, and briefing memos.
- Help clients through moments of transition, such as fundraising, IPO readiness, leadership changes, and shifts in business model or technology.
- Show how communications drives business results, and help clients think about how their communications function should evolve.
- Use your understanding of emerging-technology companies to help clients stay ahead of market trends.
- Serve as a reliable, adaptable resource for senior team members, and lead and develop the people working with you.
- Partner with Teneo senior management and other Teneo divisions to identify client needs and deliver integrated solutions.
- Bring new ideas to how the team works, including using AI tools to improve quality and speed.
- Represent Teneo in the Bay Area business community and help build our presence and reputation.
- Foster a team culture where quality and client satisfaction come first.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant experience managing complex communications programs across stakeholder groups within technology, media, financial services, or healthcare.
- Experience counseling senior executives and working with external financial and legal advisors.
- A strong network and understanding of both traditional and non-traditional media.
- A track record of building or improving something, such as a team, process, program, or system.
- The ability to think creatively, approach communications from new angles, and handle both day-to-day account work and one-off client requests.
- Curiosity about AI and hands-on use of AI tools in your work.
- Comfort with the pace and ambiguity of a growing office.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- Available to work from Teneo's San Francisco office at least three days a week.
- Experience in technology, media, or fintech, especially with mid- to late-stage startups preferred.
- Prior in-house experience at a technology company preferred.
What We Offer
As a Teneo employee, you will enjoy unique benefits including flexible time off policy; medical, dental, and vision coverage; long-term disability, and life insurance; a 401K plan; commuter benefits; team events; snacks; and other perks.
Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
Teneo is an equal opportunity employer and promotes a diverse and inclusive workplace. Teneo considers all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, creed, national origin, age, sex, marital status, ancestry, disability, veteran status, gender identity, genetic information, or sexual orientation or any other status protected by applicable law.
Base Salary Range
$175,000 - $230,000 (compensation for this role will depend on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience that may fall outside of the range listed).
