Experience: 12+ Years

Engineering Manager (Hands-On, Agentic SDLC)

As part of our Financial Services Organization (FSO), you will be part of a technology

organization that develops and maintains innovative solutions for our client-serving Tax

professionals. FSO professionals will partner with our Tax professionals to develop supporting

technology such as digital tools to improve internal operations, development of advanced

financial dashboards, visualization, analytics, and reports.

Our Financial Services EY EDGE practice is made up of a team of professionals providing

dedicated tax technical services to both US and global clients. EDGE stands for Exceptional

Delivery and Growth Engine because this team operates in a technical environment with deep

process and service delivery experience that distinguishes EY in the marketplace.

This is a hands-on engineering management role for an experienced tech lead who wants to

step up without leaving the keyboard. You will work with a team of full -stack engineers, and you

are the senior technical authority and the people leader for them: you ship code, set technical

direction, and hire and grow the engineers around you. Agentic SDLC has changed the shape of

the work. Tasks are now smaller and well-bounded, so a manager's highest leverage is to deliver

directly and orchestrate agents alongside the team rather than coordinate handoffs. The ideal

candidate is a strong practitioner who wants bigger impact and is excited to build with agents,

not someone stepping back from building.

You will own a mixed environment. Legacy components run on .NET / C# backends and Angular

frontends, which you will maintain and modernize. New agentic development is built on a

lightweight Python / Node / React stack optimized for fast edit-run-test loops and high agent

throughput. You will drive phased modernization from legacy toward the new stack while

keeping business-critical components stable.

Your key responsibilities

  • As an Engineering Manager, you will lead from the keyboard, own technical direction, and keep
  • delivery predictable while balancing modernization with stability.
  • Contribute code every week using agents; the hands-on work is the core of the role, not an
  • optional extra.
  • Own and version the domain's agent operating instructions and keep them improving.
  • Do pull request review and provide fast, technical feedback.
  • Fix, ship, and manage the tech-debt backlog directly rather than only delegating it.
  • Route each smaller, well-bounded task to the best executor, whether an agent, an engineer, or
  • yourself.
  • Use agentic SDLC to increase throughput on bounded components with clean interfaces.
  • Keep coordination lean and outcome-focused; identify dependencies and risks early.
  • Act as the primary owner of the team's technical direction, architecture decisions, and long
  • term technical health.
  • Define and drive the technical roadmap, balancing new delivery, modernization, and tech
  • debt reduction.
  • Own both the legacy .NET / C# and Angular components and new development on the
  • Python / Node / React stack, driving phased modernization while keeping business-critical
  • components stable.
  • Hire engineers for the team and own the bar for technical hiring.
  • Evaluate and rate engineers, give regular feedback, and support their growth.
  • Coach the team to work effectively with agents.
  • Uphold engineering principles consistently across design, coding, testing, release, and
  • operations.
  • Lead practical adoption of agentic SDLC with clear human-in-the-loop quality, testing, and
  • security guardrails.
  • Apply a documented verification protocol per artifact type (code, tests, docs, infrastructure).
  • Run evals before merge and keep human-owned merge control on production branches.
  • Maintain strong automated testing coverage across unit, integration, and end-to-end.
  • Track and report key engineering metrics, including reporting to Atlassian Compass.
  • Facilitate bi-weekly live demos from the cloud environment, including agent workflows
  • alongside features; do not skip demos.
  • Partner with the dedicated production support organization, which owns frontline operations
  • for the product.
  • Provide the tooling, automation, and runbooks that make the product easier to support and
  • operate.
  • Reduce operational toil through automation, including agent-assisted workflows where
  • appropriate.
  • Maintain an up-to-date list of WIZ Critical and Major findings and remediate them within SLA.
  • Apply explicit guardrails, blast-radius limits, and audit trails on any production-touching
  • automation you build.
  • Keep architecture docs, ADRs, runbooks, and agent instructions accurate and current.

Skills and attributes for success

  • An experienced tech lead who has led at least one team, ready to step into hands-on
  • engineering management, including hiring and evaluating engineers, while continuing to build
  • daily.
  • Strong proficiency in Python / Node / React stack for new development.
  • Experience maintaining and modernizing existing .NET / C# services and Angular frontends.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience applying agentic SDLC in real production delivery
  • workflows.
  • Proven ownership of the full development loop (build, test, release, operate, and iterate).
  • Extensive experience with cloud-native applications on Azure (AWS and Google Cloud Platform experience is
  • also acceptable).
  • Hands-on experience with containerized workloads and orchestration.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Bicep, Terraform, Pulumi, or AWS
  • CDK.
  • In-depth knowledge of test automation (unit, integration, e2e).
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD automation, required for full-stack delivery in this role.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and make significant technical
  • contributions.
  • Proven track record of owning technical direction, architecture decisions, and a long-term
  • technical roadmap.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate technical concepts to non
  • technical stakeholders.
  • A genuine appetite for building with a small team and agents, and for continuous learning.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Bachelor s degree required (4-year degree) Accounting, Finance, Information Systems,
  • Economics and/or a master s degree in Accounting, Tax Technology, Management
  • Information Systems, or Computer Science or related field.
  • Typically, no less than 5 - 7 years relevant experience.
  • You are required to have one of the following certifications: CPA, EA, JD, Master s degree in
  • business administration, finance, economics, computer science, information systems or
  • engineering, Quantitative Economics or Quants.
  • Exposure to the financial services industry, accounting/finance/tax, tax or finance
  • performance improvement, tax software development and/or implementation.
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and monitoring them until completion, including
  • documenting requirements, configuration, testing, debugging, project profitability, and tax
  • systems and process configuration.
  • Ideally, you'll also have
  • Familiarity with delivery and security tools such as GitHub, GitHub Actions, Atlassian Suite,
  • SonarQube, Mend, Aqua Trivy, and WIZ.
  • Experience working in a micro frontends environment is a strong nice to have.
  • Strong understanding of component life cycles, unit testing, and resolving complex issues in
  • full-stack development.
