Job Description

Role :  AWS Technical Architect

Job type: Fulltime

Location: Parsippany, NJ – Onsite

Job Description:

  • Minimum 10+ years of software engineering with 7+ years hands-on AWS cloud architecture experience. Proven ability to architect, configure, and deliver enterprise-grade cloud solutions across core AWS services including EC2, Lambda, ECS/Fargate, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, S3, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, Step Functions, VPC, Direct Connect, Route 53, IAM, KMS, WAF, and Secrets Manager. Strong understanding of 3-tier web architectures, storage replication, backup design, and managed hosting services. Able to drive POCs single-handedly and migrate them to production. Experience comparing and positioning trade-offs between private, public, and hybrid cloud solutions on AWS.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing integration architectures connecting legacy/mainframe systems with cloud-native services in hybrid environments. Proficient in REST API design and governance, asynchronous messaging patterns (SQS, SNS, MQ, Kafka, JMS), event-driven architecture, and data pipeline design (ETL/ELT, CDC). Experience designing anti-corruption layers, strangler fig patterns, and parallel run coordination between mainframe and cloud systems. Ability to assess trade-offs between synchronous and asynchronous integration patterns and select the right approach for each migration scenario.
  • Conversant in network security methods, appliances, and systems including VPC design, public/private subnet segmentation, NACLs, security groups, WAF, and Shield. Strong understanding of hyperscale connectivity, LAN/WAN architecture, Direct Connect, VPN, and PrivateLink for mainframe-to-cloud connectivity. Proficient in IAM least-privilege design, KMS key management, encryption at rest and in transit, Secrets Manager, CloudTrail, and AWS Config for compliance monitoring. Ability to translate mainframe security controls (RACF/ACF2) into equivalent cloud security patterns.
  • Strong experience designing for performance and scalability including auto-scaling groups, Lambda concurrency, ElastiCache, CloudFront, DAX, and database connection pooling. Hands-on experience with load testing (JMeter, Gatling, k6), performance benchmarking, and right-sizing AWS resources for cost and performance balance. Ability to design and validate cloud performance against mainframe benchmarks during parallel run. Experience with AWS Cost Explorer, Trusted Advisor, and Savings Plans for ongoing cost governance.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform and CloudFormation for infrastructure as code in multi-account, multi-environment AWS programs. Proven ability to continuously manage configuration across all cloud environments (Dev, Test, PreProd, Prod) — identifying dependencies, potential conflicts, and maintaining deployment schedules. Experience designing and governing CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline), deployment strategies (blue-green, canary), and environment promotion gates. Strong understanding of DevOps practices including automated testing, monitoring integration, and rollback strategies.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Define and own the cloud architecture blueprint for the mainframe modernization program — establish reference architecture, service selection standards, integration patterns, and design principles that all development workstreams must follow
  • Continuously manage the configuration of all cloud environments (Dev, Test, PreProd, Prod) — identify dependencies, resolve potential conflicts, document the process, and track deployment schedules across environments
  • Optimize AWS dep loyments for scalability, efficiency, and security — conduct regular architecture reviews to identify gaps, enforce standards, and recommend improvements across all workstreams
  • Design and govern the hybrid integration architecture — define how mainframe and cloud systems communicate, establish API contract standards, messaging patterns, and data synchronization approach during parallel run
  • Solve technical challenges across the program — collaborate with workstream Technical Leads, mainframe architects, and operations teams to resolve integration issues, performance bottlenecks, and deployment blockers
  • Design and enforce cloud security architecture — translate mainframe security controls into cloud-native equivalents, establish IAM standards, encryption policies, network segmentation, and compliance monitoring
  • Design performance and cost governance framework — establish performance baselines, monitoring standards, alerting thresholds, and cost optimization practices for all migrated workloads
  • Maintain cloud architecture documentation — reference architecture diagrams, architecture decision records (ADRs), environment configuration guides, integration specs, and deployment runbooks as living documents throughout the program
