An opportunity to shape, develop and transform an engineering department within a heavy manufacturing environment.

Are you an experienced Engineering Manager looking for your next career move? Do you have a background in steel, heavy manufacturing or a similarly demanding industrial environment?

This is an exciting opportunity for a driven and ambitious engineering professional to take ownership of an engineering function, develop its capabilities and help shape the department for the future.

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager with a strong technical foundation, excellent leadership skills and a proactive approach to improving equipment reliability, manufacturing performance and engineering standards.

The Role

Reporting into senior management, you will be responsible for leading and developing the engineering function, ensuring equipment reliability, supporting operational performance and driving a culture of continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, developing and motivating the engineering team across mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Reviewing and developing the engineering department's structure, processes and working practices.
  • Improving plant reliability, equipment availability and overall manufacturing performance.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives, including OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance).
  • Developing effective preventative and planned maintenance strategies to reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve engineering standards, efficiency and equipment performance.
  • Working closely with production and other departments to resolve technical issues and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Promoting a strong culture of health and safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Supporting engineering projects, equipment upgrades and investment initiatives as required.
  • Developing the skills and capabilities of the team to support the long-term needs of the business.

About You

We are keen to speak with established engineering leaders who can combine strong technical knowledge with the ability to lead people, improve performance and deliver change.

You will ideally have:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • At least 10 years' engineering experience, including substantial experience in an engineering management role.
  • Experience working within steel manufacturing, heavy industry or a similarly demanding manufacturing environment.
  • A strong understanding of heavy machinery, industrial equipment and plant maintenance.
  • Knowledge of OEE, TPM, preventative maintenance and reliability improvement.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, ideally covering both mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • A proven ability to identify improvement opportunities and translate them into practical results.
