Job Description

We are looking for R&D Medical Device Technician for our client in Plymouth, MN

Job Title: R&D Medical Device Technician

Job Location: Plymouth, MN

Job Type: Contract

Pay Range: $27.22hr - $32.22hr

Job Overview:

The candidate will serve as an R&D Technician II, responsible for performing various mechanical, electrical, and dimensional tests on medical devices within an R&D lab setting. The role requires following precise instructions, maintaining accurate documentation, and utilizing specialized testing tools while working fully on-site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical, electrical, conditioning, length, OD, and visual tests on medical devices.
  • Follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation using good documentation practices.
  • Communicate clearly with engineers regarding test results and observations.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and use appropriate safety equipment.
  • Utilize lab tools and equipment including calipers, MTS, multimeters, digital thermometers, force gauges, Cognex, LabView, and hand tools.
  • Maintain a work balance of approximately 85% lab time and 15% desk time (100% on-site).

Required Qualifications:

  • 1 4 years of relevant experience or post-high school education.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and work independently.
  • Familiarity with medical device testing or product assembly preferred.
  • Experience in R&D or testing environments is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Document drafting experience is beneficial.

Candidate Profile:

  • Solid work history with demonstrated reliability (e.g., 2+ years at the same company).
  • Career progression or transferable skills relevant to testing or mechanical work.
  • AA degree or post-secondary education preferred.
  • BS in engineering or master s degree is considered overqualified.
  • Candidates with BS degrees in chemistry, biomedical, or physics are typically not a fit due to long-term retention concerns.
  • Ideal candidates are hands-on, focused, and interested in long-term growth within the team not seeking a steppingstone role.

Manager Preferences:

  • Resumes must be well-written and free of spelling errors.
  • Avoid resumes that appear copied and pasted from job descriptions.
  • Candidates should demonstrate genuine interest in medical device testing and long-term commitment.
