Position Overview

We are seeking a Junior Associate, Primary Market Research to join RA Capital’s Primary Market Research team, with a strong focus on quantitative primary market research, value & access, and pricing. This role is ideal for someone with approximately 2 years of experience in life sciences consulting, pharmaceutical market research, or a related healthcare research role who has hands-on experience designing and executing primary research studies.

The Primary Market Research team generates proprietary insights through patient, physician, and payer surveys and calls to inform investment decisions across RA Capital’s portfolios. In this role, you will help execute a high volume of quantitative and qualitative research studies while serving as a connective link between PMR and the broader Research team. You will help translate research questions into effective studies, manage external vendors, oversee data quality, and synthesize findings into actionable insights.

Candidates must be eager to experiment with ways to incorporate AI into their work to be more efficient and effective. RA Capital is looking for people who are proactive about using AI where possible, exploring new tools, and even building or customizing tools. AI is transforming our work, and we are specifically looking for AI-forward people to ensure we are leveraging these capabilities as effectively as possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute quantitative and qualitative primary market research across multiple therapeutic areas, including physician, patient, and payer research; develop surveys, screeners, discussion guides, and study materials.
  • Manage a high volume of quantitative surveys from research objective alignment through testing, fielding, data delivery, quality control, analysis, and synthesis.
  • Conduct value & access and pricing-related research, including work focused on market access, payer dynamics, pricing sensitivity, and other commercial considerations.
  • Coordinate with external research vendors on project scoping, timelines, fielding, issue resolution, respondent quality, and panel integrity.
  • Analyze and synthesize primary research findings into clear, actionable insights and serve as a connective link between PMR and the broader Research team.
  • Leverage and customize AI tools to improve survey design, data analysis, synthesis, and other research workflows; proactively identify opportunities to improve accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications & Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, biomedical sciences, public health, data analytics, or a related field.
  • Approximately 2 years of experience in pharmaceutical or healthcare market research, life sciences consulting, or a related analytical role.
  • Hands-on experience designing and executing primary market research studies.
  • Strong scientific literacy or demonstrated ability to quickly learn and interpret scientific and clinical information.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to synthesize complex research findings into clear, actionable takeaways.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a high volume of concurrent and varied projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-directed and collaborative, with the ability to work independently while responding well to feedback and guidance.
  • Adaptable and flexible, with the ability to work through ambiguity, shifting priorities, and complex problems.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for AI tools, including experience experimenting with, adopting, or customizing them for day-to-day work.
  • Must be based in Boston with the ability to work in our downtown office on a hybrid schedule.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Highly Preferred

  • Experience conducting primary market research related to value & access, market access, and/or pharmaceutical pricing.
  • Experience conducting payer-focused research or pricing sensitivity studies.
  • Experience with quantitative research methodologies such as conjoint, MaxDiff, discrete choice, willingness-to-pay, or similar approaches.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools such as Excel, Python, or similar tools.
  • Experience working with or managing external research vendors.

Why Join RA Capital?

  • Work at the intersection of primary market research, life sciences, and healthcare investing, with research directly informing investment decisions.
  • Develop deep expertise in quantitative PMR, value & access, pricing, and biotech investment research.
  • Gain broad exposure across therapeutic areas and stakeholder groups, including physicians, patients, and payers.
  • Build expertise in applying AI to real-world research workflows.
