Job Description
Role: Oracle Database Administrator
Location: Austin, Texas HYBRID (3-days a week onsite - ONLY local candidates)
Duration: 12+ months contract
Candidate Qualifications:
TxDOT is seeking an experienced Oracle Database Administrator to support the design, development, and maintenance of relational database structures for the TxDOTCONNECT application's backend services. This role will focus on schema design, performance tuning, and integration of database changes into the broader development and CI/CD pipeline.
Required Skills:
· Oracle Database Development — Designing, developing, and maintaining relational databases for backend services.
Qualifications:
· Minimum 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator, with hands-on Oracle database development (Oracle 19c preferred).
· Proven experience with schema design, including foreign key relationships across complex, multi-domain enterprise schemas.
· Experience with view design, query optimization, and performance tuning for aggregation-heavy queries.
· Familiarity with enterprise audit column standards and logical delete patterns for audit trail preservation.
· Experience with version-controlled database migration scripts and CI/CD pipeline integration.
· Experience supporting batch processing patterns (e.g., Spring Batch) with bulk lookup/update/insert query design is a plus.
· Located in the Austin, TX area or willing to relocate; able to meet the onsite requirement (3+ days/week).
Preferred Skills:
· TxDOTCONNECT Experience — Prior experience with the TxDOTCONNECT application or TxDOT database conventions.
· Schema Design — Designing new tables integrated with existing enterprise schemas, including foreign key relationships across multiple table domains.
· View Design and Performance Tuning — Oracle 19c view design and query optimization for aggregation across multiple related tables.
· Audit Column Standardization — Applying enterprise audit column patterns (Created By, Created Date, Effective From/To Date, Last Update By, Last Update Date, Logical Delete) consistently across new tables.
· Migration Management — Version-controlled migration script development for schema changes in enterprise applications.
· Logical Delete Patterns — Understanding of logical delete patterns for preserving audit trails in relational systems.
· Bulk Operation Query Design — Query design and optimization for bulk lookup, bulk update, and bulk insert operations supporting batch processing patterns (e.g., Spring Batch chunk-oriented processing).
· Reference Data Design — Experience designing configuration-driven library tables that support runtime business rule evaluation.
· CI/CD Integration — Integration of database migration and change management into continuous integration pipelines.
Engagement Terms:
· Onsite Requirement (Firm): Minimum 3 days per week at TxDOT HQ in Austin, TX.
· Minimum Experience: 5+ years in the specified role for all positions.
· Engagement Duration: ~9 months, November 2, 2026 – August 4, 2027
· Development Platform: Azure DevOps, branching from TxDOTCONNECT Main
