Job Description

About the Role

You'll lead clinical and regulatory operations at Montu Pharmacy – the dispensing engine behind the UK's largest medical cannabis clinic. We're processing 50,000 prescriptions monthly with 10% month-on-month growth. This isn't a traditional pharmacy role.

You'll own:

• Clinical governance and professional leadership for a digital-first, high-volume operation

• GPhC and regulatory compliance across all pharmacy operations

• Controlled Drugs governance and record-keeping at scale

• Team leadership and clinical competency for 100+ pharmacy staff

• Pharmacy systems, SOPs, and automation strategy

• Regulatory inspections, audits, and industry representation

Your scope is real. You'll shape pharmacy strategy alongside the Medical Director and General Manager. You'll evaluate new services, lead regulatory readiness for expansion, and influence technology investments. You won't be managing a counter or chasing rotas – you'll be building the future of digital pharmacy.

Who we're looking for

You've either:

• Worked as a Superintendent Pharmacist in a high-volume, fast-paced environment

• Led clinical teams in a scale-up, healthtech, or innovative healthcare setting

• Worked where the rulebook was still being written (and thrived in it)

You are:

• Registered with GPhC, with strong knowledge of current GPhC Standards and MHRA regulations

• Experienced in Controlled Drugs governance and regulatory compliance

• Comfortable with automation, pharmacy technology, and operational efficiency

• A calm decision-maker who can hold rigorous standards whilst navigating growth and complexity

• Commercially aware – you understand KPIs and how pharmacy operations drive business

• Able to influence across clinical and non-clinical teams

• Genuinely interested in healthcare innovation

This is not for you if: you're looking for a predictable, quiet pharmacy role in a traditional setting. The pace is real. The expectations are high. You'll need to act decisively without waiting for everything to be settled first.

Experience Required

Essential:

• Current GPhC registration as a Pharmacist

• Experience as a Superintendent Pharmacist or senior pharmacy leader

• Deep understanding of GPhC Standards for Pharmacy Professionals

• MHRA regulations knowledge (importing, wholesaling, storage standards)

• Experience managing Controlled Drugs governance and regulation compliance

• Track record leading teams in high-volume pharmacy

• Experience with regulatory inspections and audit readiness

Desirable (but valuable):

• Online pharmacy or digital health experience

• Medical cannabis or private healthcare sector experience

• Multi-site pharmacy or scaling operations experience

• Pharmacy technology, automation, or systems implementation experience

What success looks like

Within your first year:

• You've earned trust with the clinical and operations teams

• Pharmacy governance frameworks are documented, audited, and fit for purpose

• Team competencies are assessed, trained, and maintained to GPhC standards

• Controlled Drugs governance is robust, auditable, and scalable for growth

• You've led the pharmacy through a successful regulatory inspection or audit

• You've identified and influenced implementation of key technology or automation improvements

• You're actively shaping the pharmacy's clinical and regulatory strategy

What you'll be doing

Daily:

• Provide clinical leadership and ensure patient-centred governance

• Oversee pharmacy operations, staff competencies, and SOPs

• Maintain GPhC and MHRA compliance across all areas

• Manage Controlled Drugs records and governance

• Monitor medicines expenditure and suggest scalable improvements

• Support the team to maintain accuracy and pace simultaneously

Strategic:

• Shape clinical and governance strategy alongside senior leadership

• Evaluate new services and products for regulatory feasibility

• Lead regulatory readiness for business expansion

• Represent Montu with regulators and industry bodies

• Influence pharmacy technology and automation investments

• Support business growth through scalable governance frameworks

The Scope

You'll be responsible for:

• 50,000+ prescriptions per month (and growing 10% monthly)

• Millions of pounds of medicines under management annually

• Clinical oversight of a 100+ person pharmacy team

• Compliance across GPhC, MHRA, and all statutory regulations

• Controlled Drugs governance and audit

• Pharmacy systems and SOP governance

• Regulatory inspections and audit preparation

• Collaboration with clinical, operations, technology, and commercial teams

What we offer:

The salary range is £100,000 to £110,000 depending on experience, with a 25% performance-related bonus. Alongside that:

Benefits include:

• 25 days holiday, rising to 27 after year one and 30 after year three, plus 8 bank holidays

• Pension matching up to 5% employer contributions

• Private healthcare scheme

• Enhanced maternity and paternity leave

• Cycle-to-work and EV scheme

• Genuine growth: collaboration across teams, representation at industry events, and direct involvement in shaping a scaling business
