Clinical Nurse II: Irvine ICU

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Clinical Nurse II - Critical Care role provides direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act for assigned patients in a critical care unit including Neuro ICU, CCU, and Sub ICU. The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. This includes providing physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional needs, and teaching and discharge needs of the patients assigned. Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs. Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed, and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental and hospital standards, policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

In addition to the above responsibilities, the Clinical Nurse II is involved in Hoag Committee/Council with at least 50% attendance, communicates quarterly to UPC (Unit Practice Council) on committee/council work, and completes three supplemental activities a year.

Education and Experience

• Clinical Nurse II's at Magnet designated facilities only require a BSN or that a BSN program is started within one year of hire date and BSN degree is attained within two years of the starting the BSN program.
• BSN preferred. One year nursing experience required.
• Successfully pass ECG test required only for units with telemetry monitoring.

Additional requirements for specific departments are as follows:

• Irvine ICU: Successful completion of a basic Critical Care Course or equivalency required prior to clinical rotation. Successful completion of ECG test required. Critical Care experience preferred. Fulfills mandatory stroke education requirements per certification.

License Required:

• Registered Nurse in the State of California - Current and in good standing.

Certifications Required

• Current BLS (AHA) certification upon hire
• ACLS certification upon hire
• Irvine ICU: NIHSS required upon hire

Certifications Preferred

• CCU: IABP, CRT Certification, CCRN Certification
• Neuro ICU: CCRN, CNRN, SCRN
• Sub ICU: PCCN, CCRN
