The Primary Instructor delivers core instructional content within the Paramedic Program, including didactic, laboratory, simulation, clinical, and field instruction. Working under the direction of the Program Director, this role ensures high-quality teaching, student evaluation, and competency development, aligned with the approved curriculum and CAAHEP/CoAEMSP Standards and Guidelines. The Primary Instructor supports student success through consistent instruction, assessment, documentation, and professional role modeling.

  • Deliver assigned paramedic course content in didactic, laboratory, simulation, clinical, and field internship settings in accordance with the approved curriculum and program policies.
  • Ensure instruction reflects current standards of emergency medical care and the accepted scope of paramedic practice.
  • Facilitate psychomotor skills training and simulation activities, verifying student competency using approved evaluation tools.
  • Evaluate student performance across cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains using established assessment methods.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and coaching to promote skill mastery, clinical reasoning, and professional growth.
  • Document student performance, attendance, competency verification, and remediation activities accurately and promptly.
  • Participate in remediation planning and instructional support for students not meeting performance standards.
  • Maintain instructional and evaluation records required for accreditation, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance.
  • Adhere to all program policies, accreditation standards, and instructional guidelines established by the Program Director.
  • Collaborate with program leadership and faculty to ensure instructional consistency, student progression, and program quality.
  • Participate in program outcomes assessment and continuous quality improvement activities as assigned.
  • Model professionalism, ethical conduct, and effective communication in all instructional settings.

Pay: $31.00 per hour 

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Current Paramedic certification (National Registry and/or state, as applicable) in good standing.
  • Five (5) or more years of documented experience in prehospital emergency medical services, with demonstrated advanced clinical competency.
  • Demonstrated expertise in paramedic-level psychomotor skills, advanced life support procedures, and clinical decision-making.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of instructional, precepting, or formal teaching experience in an EMS or allied health education program.
  • Ability to design, deliver, and evaluate didactic, laboratory, and simulation-based instruction effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, competency-based education, and student evaluation methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience participating in curriculum development, outcomes assessment, or accreditation-related activities.
  • Current instructor certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, AMLS, ITLS) and/or instructor-trainer status.
  • Experience mentoring instructors, coordinating course sections, or leading instructional teams.
  • Familiarity with CAAHEP/CoAEMSP Standards and Guidelines and accreditation documentation processes.
