Brio Digital is searching for an experienced Lead Content Designer to join our client's team on a contract basis (outside IR35). You will lead content design on a Central Government programme via a delivery partner, setting standards and guiding a multidisciplinary team to deliver clear, accessible, user-centred services.

What you'll do as a Lead Content Designer

  • Lead the content design approach across the programme, setting direction, standards and ways of working.

  • Work closely with user researchers, service designers, interaction designers and product managers to shape end-to-end services.
  • Use research and data to identify user needs and continually improve content.
  • Make sure content meets the GOV.UK style guide, GDS Service Standard and accessibility requirements (WCAG 2.2 AA).
  • Represent content design in service assessments and with senior stakeholders, and challenge decisions constructively where needed.

What we're looking for in a Lead Content Designer

  • Proven experience as a Lead or Senior Content Designer within Central Government or the wider public sector.
  • Track record of taking services through GDS service assessments (Alpha, Beta or Live).
  • Experience leading and developing content designers in agile, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Expert writing and editing skills, with the ability to simplify complex policy and legislation into plain English.
  • Strong knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design.
  • Experience with content management systems and the GOV.UK Design System.
  • Confident stakeholder management, including with policy and legal teams.

Bonus points if you have

  • Experience with Figma, Mural or prototyping tools.
  • Experience of content strategy or information architecture at programme level.
  • Active SC clearance (or eligibility).
