Job Description
Purpose
- Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for a Business Development Manager who will support the growth of Valkyrie’s advanced engineering and rapid prototyping business with Department of Defense and other government customers.
This is a development-focused role for a mission-driven professional who understands government customers and operational challenges from the inside. Valkyrie is seeking a recently separated or soon-to-separate military officer or mid-level to senior NCO, or a civil servant with comparable experience, who can connect customer mission needs to Valkyrie’s engineering and rapid prototyping capabilities.
Job Description
- Build and maintain relationships with government stakeholders, including warfighters, requirements owners, program offices, laboratories, and innovation organizations, to understand operational needs and emerging requirements.
- Translate operational challenges into clear problem statements and work with engineering leads to match customer needs to Valkyrie’s advanced engineering and prototyping capabilities.
- Identify, qualify, and track opportunities across Other Transaction Authorities (OTAs), SBIR/STTR, Commercial Solutions Openings, prototype and technology-transition programs, and traditional contract vehicles.
- Support capture planning and proposal development, including white papers, solution briefs, technical volumes, pricing inputs, and customer presentations.
- Represent Valkyrie at customer meetings, industry days, demonstrations, test events, conferences, and other industry engagements.
- Maintain pipeline data, opportunity reviews, and customer engagement records within the company CRM and report progress to leadership.
- Coordinate with contracts, finance, and program management teams regarding teaming agreements, partner engagement, and transition of awards into execution.
- Develop a working knowledge of Valkyrie’s engineering and prototyping capabilities, facilities, and past performance and communicate them accurately and credibly to government customers and partners.
Qualifications
- Must have a bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or a comparable STEM field, or a master’s degree in a technical field.
- Must have military service as a commissioned officer or mid-level to senior NCO, or equivalent civil service experience supporting a defense or government customer.
- Must have a working understanding of how the Department of Defense identifies requirements, funds programs, and acquires capabilities.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Must demonstrate operational credibility, curiosity, coachability, and the ability to build professional relationships with government customers.
- Must be willing to travel approximately 35% of the time to customer sites, test events, conferences, and industry engagements.
- Must have experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Military operations, including combat arms or other traditional military occupational specialties.
- Military contracting or acquisition, such as contracting officer, contracting officer’s representative, program office, or requirements roles.
- Requirements, operations, or technology integration involving industry or engineering organizations.
- Familiarity with Other Transaction Authorities or other non-traditional acquisition pathways. Business development experience is not required. Valkyrie will provide onboarding, mentorship, and business development training to develop the candidate’s commercial skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Direct experience with OTAs, prototype projects, or rapid acquisition programs preffered.
- Hands-on experience in engineering, test, or prototyping environments preffered.
- Preferred Professional certifications or coursework in acquisition, contracting, or business development, such as DAWIA, Shipley, or APMP, or willingness to earn them.
- Existing professional network within a relevant military service, command, laboratory, program office, or government organization.
Security Requirements
- Must have an Active U.S. Secret security clearance at the time of hire, with eligibility for Top Secret/SCI access.
- An active Top Secret/SCI clearance is strongly preferred, or the candidate must have a current investigation that supports prompt Top Secret/SCI adjudication.
Travel Requirements: Approximately 35% travel to customer sites, test events, demonstrations, conferences, industry days, and other government or industry engagements. The position is based in Huntsville, AL, with potential for remote work. Relocation assistance to Huntsville may be available.
Physical Requirements
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Moderate work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
