Infrastructure Engineer

Position: Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Fully Remote

Duration: Long term

Critical Skills

1. Ceph Storage Engineering: Expert / Advanced

·       Design, deploy, operate, troubleshoot, and scale Ceph clusters.

·       Strong understanding of:

o   MON, MGR, OSD, MDS

o   RBD

o   CephFS

o   RGW / object storage

o   CRUSH maps and failure domains

o   Pools, placement groups, replication, and erasure coding

·       Diagnose:

o   degraded/undersized PGs

o   slow OSDs

o   recovery/backfill problems

o   capacity imbalance

o   latency and throughput bottlenecks

·       Understand storage networking, disk/SSD/NVMe characteristics, failure scenarios and performance tuning.

·       Ability to design Ceph for large production virtualization workloads, rather than simply administer an existing cluster.

2. Proxmox VE: Advanced

Candidate should be able to:

·       Design and administer multi-node Proxmox VE clusters.

·       Deploy and manage KVM virtual machines.

·       Understand Proxmox clustering and quorum.

·       Integrate Proxmox with Ceph-backed storage.

·       Configure Linux bridges, VLANs, bonding, and storage/network separation.

·       Troubleshoot cluster, compute, storage, and VM problems.

·       Plan node maintenance and workload evacuation.

·       Design HA and failure-domain strategies.

·       Perform or plan migrations from VMware/OpenStack into Proxmox.

·       Understand backup/recovery architecture for Proxmox environments.

·       Automate VM provisioning and lifecycle management through APIs/IaC.

3. OpenStack: Advanced

Critical Technical Skills

·       Advanced hands-on experience designing, deploying, operating, troubleshooting, and scaling Ceph distributed storage environments supporting production virtualized workloads.

·       Advanced experience with Proxmox VE, including clustered virtualization, high availability, Ceph integration, networking, storage, lifecycle management, backup/recovery, and automation.

·       Advanced experience administering and troubleshooting OpenStack, including Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Glance, Keystone, compute infrastructure, networking, and Ceph integration.

·       Advanced experience with VMware vSphere, including ESXi, vCenter, HA/DRS, virtual networking, storage, lifecycle management, troubleshooting, and workload migration.

·       Expert-level Linux engineering skills with Red Hat-derived and Ubuntu distributions in large production environments.

·       Strong infrastructure-as-code and automation experience using Ansible, Terraform, Git, Python and/or Bash.

·       Strong infrastructure networking knowledge including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, bonding/LACP, MTU, DNS, firewalls, virtual networking, and high-performance storage networks.

·       Experience designing and supporting bare-metal server infrastructure, including compute, storage, network interfaces, firmware, hardware lifecycle, and data-center deployment.

·       Demonstrated ability to perform large-scale virtualization and storage migrations, including discovery, capacity planning, dependency analysis, migration testing, rollback planning, and post-migration validation.

·       Strong understanding of high availability, backup/recovery, disaster recovery, capacity management, monitoring, performance tuning, security, and platform lifecycle management.
