Job Description

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future. The NYISO takes pride in recruiting, developing and retaining highly talented individuals. Our co-op programs give young professionals the opportunity to gain a fundamental understanding of New York electricity markets, bulk electricity systems and how we plan for New York State’s energy future.

The NYISO is seeking an Interconnection Data and Automation Co-Op to support reporting, data visualization, and process improvement initiatives within the Interconnection Coordination department. The student will work with data maintained in the Salesforce portal to create clear, useful reporting and visualization solutions for teams across Planning and Operations.

The student will also support efforts to improve the Facility Modification review process through automation and analytical tools. This opportunity combines power systems exposure with data analysis, programming, process improvement, and collaboration across technical teams.

 

Responsibilities

  • Analyze interconnection data maintained in Salesforce to identify reporting and visualization opportunities.
  • Develop reports, dashboards, or other visual tools that make interconnection data easier to access and understand.
  • Gather input from Planning and Operations stakeholders regarding their information and reporting needs.
  • Help improve the clarity, consistency, and usability of information available to Salesforce users.
  • Support the automation of Facility Modification review and analysis activities.
  • Develop Python scripts or other tools that improve the efficiency of recurring processes.
  • Review existing workflows and recommend opportunities to reduce manual work.
  • Validate data and analytical outputs for accuracy and completeness.
  • Document reporting solutions, automation tools, processes, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Interconnection Coordination, System Modeling, Planning, and Operations professionals.

 

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Interest in power systems and electric transmission systems.
  • Basic understanding of transmission system concepts.
  • Python programming experience is required.
  • Interest in data analysis, reporting, visualization, and process automation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to organize and communicate technical information clearly.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with stakeholders across different technical areas.

 

The NYISO offers the flexibility to work both in the office and remotely, providing our employees with an enhanced work life balance. This internship will be a hybrid program, with the expectation that employees will be local to the Albany, NY area.

Salary Range
$22$35 USD
