Senior Camunda Developer with Java
Locations: Fort Mill, SC | New York, NY
Work Mode: Hybrid — 3 days per week onsite
Employment Type: Full-Time
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Camunda Developer with strong Java expertise to design, develop, and optimize business process automation solutions.
The role requires hands-on experience with the Camunda BPM platform, including Camunda 7.x and/or Camunda 8, along with a strong background in Java backend development, microservices, workflow orchestration, and enterprise integrations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deploy BPMN 2.0 workflows and DMN decision tables using Camunda.
  • Build and maintain Java-based microservices integrated with Camunda process engines.
  • Develop custom delegates, listeners, and connectors for process orchestration.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate business processes into executable workflows.
  • Optimize workflow performance and troubleshoot production issues.
  • Support high availability and reliability of workflow platforms.
  • Integrate Camunda with REST APIs, messaging platforms such as Kafka and RabbitMQ, and enterprise databases.
  • Participate in architecture and modernization initiatives, including potential migration from Camunda 7 to Camunda 8/Zeebe.
  • Develop and maintain unit and integration tests for process definitions and Java services.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines for automated build, testing, and deployment of workflow applications.
  • Participate in architecture and technical design discussions.
  • Provide technical guidance and contribute to best practices for process automation.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 10+ years of overall software development experience.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with Camunda BPM.
  • Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful API development.
  • Hands-on experience with BPMN 2.0, DMN, and CMMN modeling.
  • Experience with Camunda Modeler, Cockpit, Tasklist, and Admin.
  • Strong understanding of process engine concepts, including job execution, external tasks, and history/audit capabilities.
  • Experience integrating Camunda with messaging systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies.
  • Strong SQL and database skills with PostgreSQL, Oracle, or comparable relational databases.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance-tuning skills for production workflow environments.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and technical problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Camunda 8 / Zeebe and cloud-native BPM deployments.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture.
  • Experience working in regulated industries such as banking, insurance, or healthcare.
  • Experience with Angular or React for developing task-oriented user interfaces.
  • Experience with workflow modernization and process automation initiatives.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
