Job Description

UCentric is partnering with a growing technology organisation to appoint a Senior AI Engineer.

This is a senior individual contributor role for an experienced software engineer who has developed strong architecture and systems expertise and has moved deeply into AI-native and agentic engineering.

The focus is on helping the engineering organisation move from AI experimentation and prototyping to reliable, repeatable and production-grade AI engineering.

About the role:

You'll help shape how AI is incorporated into the engineering lifecycle, with a focus on agentic development, evaluation, testing, observability and productionisation.

You'll also contribute to the evolution of the organisation's next-generation technology platform and engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Define practical AI-native engineering patterns and standards.
  • Develop approaches for agentic software development and workflow automation.
  • Establish frameworks for evaluating AI-generated code and agent outputs.
  • Improve automated testing, regression testing and AI evaluation practices.
  • Develop observability and monitoring approaches for AI systems in production.
  • Establish appropriate controls, guardrails and human oversight for AI agents.
  • Contribute to platform architecture and complex technical decisions.
  • Analyse production failures and improve system reliability and scalability.
  • Influence senior engineers and drive adoption of effective engineering practices.
  • Mentor engineers and share technical knowledge across the organisation.
Key Qualifications:
  • Significant experience as a senior software engineer.
  • Strong software engineering and architecture background.
  • Experience building and operating complex production systems.
  • Demonstrated experience taking AI-enabled products from prototype into production.
  • Strong understanding of AI-native and agentic engineering.
  • Experience with AI-generated code, coding agents or agent orchestration.
  • Strong understanding of evaluation, automated testing and observability.
  • Experience designing scalable, reliable and maintainable systems.
  • Strong technical communication and influencing skills.
Highly Regarded
  • Experience with Claude, AWS Bedrock, Fireworks, LangChain, Deep Agents or similar.
  • Experience with Langfuse, LLM-as-a-Judge or AI evaluation frameworks.
  • Knowledge of graph technologies, RDF, knowledge graphs or ontology.
  • Experience across Python and Java/JVM environments.
  • Experience applying AI to software engineering workflows.
Ideal backgrounds:

Relevant backgrounds may include Senior Software Engineering, Platform Engineering, Distributed Systems, AI Engineering, AI Platform Engineering, or Software Architecture.

The strongest candidates are likely to have a strong traditional software engineering foundation before moving deeply into AI and agentic engineering.

Why this opportunity?

This is an opportunity to play a key technical role in an organisation moving towards AI-native software engineering.

You'll help shape engineering standards, AI development practices and the next generation of the company's technology platform, while working on some of the practical challenges involved in taking AI from experimentation into production.
