Job Description
The Safe Step is partnering with a leading national provider of essential infrastructure services. Supporting utility providers, government clients and major projects across Australia, the organisation employs more than 600 employees and a significant contractor workforce across multiple states. With a strong operational footprint and a reputation built over decades, the business is entering the next phase of its health and safety journey. They are seeking a National Health, Safety and Environment Manager to provide leadership, improve consistency across regions and further strengthen health and safety performance throughout the organisation.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the national Health, Safety and Environment function across a diverse operational business
- Develop and coach a team of safety professionals located across multiple states
- Drive consistent application of safety systems, governance and reporting processes
- Build strong relationships with operational leaders and frontline employees across the business
- Lead incident management, investigations, audits and assurance activities
- Improve health and safety capability, accountability and engagement across all levels of the organisation
- Support the ongoing development and utilisation of safety systems and data reporting
- Conduct regular site visits and maintain a visible leadership presence across operations
- Partner with senior leadership on strategic initiatives and growth opportunities
- Provide practical advice and influence outcomes in a fast paced and evolving environment
You are a seasoned health and safety leader who enjoys building relationships, influencing stakeholders and delivering meaningful outcomes in operationally intensive environments. Most importantly, you understand that lasting change comes through trust, credibility and practical engagement.
You'll Bring- Proven experience leading Health, Safety and Environment functions within operational, field based or high risk industries
- Strong people leadership skills with experience developing and coaching teams
- The ability to influence and build credibility with frontline workforces and operational leaders
- Experience driving health and safety improvements across geographically dispersed operations
- Strong understanding of risk management, incident investigation and compliance frameworks
- A hands on and pragmatic approach to leadership
- High levels of resilience, adaptability and emotional intelligence
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Experience within utilities, infrastructure, arboriculture, forestry, agriculture, transport, construction or similar environments will be highly regarded
