Overview
A fast-growing technology company is seeking a General Manager, Operations to lead onsite operations in Austin while overseeing critical payments and business operations infrastructure. This role combines office leadership with ownership of payment systems, vendor relationships, and operational processes supporting a scaling business.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in payments or fintech, hands-on experience with API-based payment platforms, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Responsibilities
Lead day-to-day operations of the Austin office, including facilities, vendor management, and onsite team support
Own payment operations end-to-end: reconciliation, settlements, disputes, and chargebacks
Manage and optimize integrations with payment gateways (e.g., Stripe, Adyen, Braintree, PayPal, or similar) in partnership with engineering
Build and improve scalable processes across operations, finance support, compliance, and administration
Partner with leadership on operational planning, budgeting, and key performance metrics
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and data teams to support operational efficiency and system reliability
Oversee compliance and risk areas related to payments (PCI-DSS, KYC/AML, regulatory considerations)
Support hiring, onboarding, and team development for the Austin office
Identify operational gaps and implement solutions in a fast-moving environment
Qualifications
5–8+ years of experience in operations, payments, or fintech, with leadership responsibilities
Hands-on experience with API-based payment platforms and payment workflows (integrations, webhooks, transaction flows)
Strong understanding of payment systems, settlement processes, reconciliation, and fraud/chargeback management
Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as PCI-DSS and KYC/AML
Experience working in startup or high-growth environments
Strong project management and vendor management skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams; familiarity with modern software environments is preferred
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; advanced degree is a plus
Preferred
Experience scaling operations in early-stage or growth-stage companies
Exposure to international payments and cross-border compliance
Background in fintech or payments-focused organizations
