Job Description
TEKsystems is seeking a Senior VMware Engineer with an active Top Secret clearance and Security+ certification to support a Secure Development Environment (SDE) deployment for a Fortune Aerospace && Defense organization in Richardson, TX. This position will cover 100% of travel expenses (flight/hotel/per diem) for candidates outside of Richardson, TX. This effort supports classified engineering workloads associated with Department of Defense (DoD) programs. The infrastructure architecture and design have already been completed.
This role is focused on implementation, configuration, integration, validation, troubleshooting, and operational support of a VMware-based enterprise infrastructure environment. The engineer selected for this role will serve as the senior VMware resource on the deployment team and must be capable of independently configuring and troubleshooting VMware Cloud Foundation environments with minimal oversight. The engagement is projected to last up to 12 months, with an initial 6-month funding period and strong extension potential.
What You'll Do • Deploy, configure, and validate VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) environments based on existing architecture documentation and implementation standards. • Build and configure VMware ESXi hosts and clusters. • Install, configure, and manage: ○ VMware ESXi ○ VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) ○ vCenter ○ vSAN ○ NSX • Perform hypervisor deployment and cluster configuration activities. • Configure and validate virtual networking, distributed switches, storage connectivity, and cluster operations. • Support VCF lifecycle management activities, including patching, upgrades, and maintenance. • Create and manage VM templates, golden images, and virtualization configuration baselines. • Implement and validate VMware security hardening and STIG requirements. • Support integration with Active Directory, identity management, and security platforms. • Troubleshoot complex virtualization, storage, networking, and infrastructure issues. • Validate implementations against deployment documentation and operational requirements. • Support RMF, ATO, and cybersecurity compliance activities in partnership with cybersecurity personnel. • Maintain configuration documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures. • Collaborate closely with infrastructure, networking, systems engineering, and cybersecurity teams throughout deployment activities. • Serve as the senior VMware SME during installation, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and operational turnover.
What We're Looking For Required Qualifications • Active Top Secret clearance. • Active Security+ certification (required Day 1). • 7+ years of enterprise infrastructure engineering experience. • Strong VMware administration and engineering background. • Hands-on experience with: ○ VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) ○ ESXi ○ vCenter ○ vSAN ○ NSX • Experience deploying and configuring enterprise VMware environments with limited architectural oversight. • Experience supporting large enterprise or government infrastructure environments. • Strong troubleshooting skills across virtualization, compute, networking, and storage layers. • Experience working from architecture diagrams, implementation guides, and engineering documentation. • Ability to serve as the primary VMware SME on a deployment team.
Preferred Qualifications • VMware certifications such as: ○ VCP ○ VCAP ○ VCDX • Experience supporting classified environments. • Experience supporting DoD, IC, Aerospace, or Defense programs. • Familiarity with: ○ RMF ○ NIST 800-53 ○ STIGs ○ ATO processes • Experience with: ○ PowerCLI ○ Ansible ○ Terraform • Experience integrating VMware infrastructure with Active Directory and enterprise security solutions. • Experience with VMware NSX security and segmentation concepts. • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
