Senior Java Backend Engineer – AI(RAG, Ontology) & Rules Engine

Role: Java Backend Engineer with AI
Location: Oakland/ San Francisco, CA or Alpharetta, GA (Hybrid)
Duration: 12 + Months

Candidate must be local to Oakland, CA or Alpharetta, GA and willing to work onsite 1-2 days a week, as needed. No sponsorship opportunities are available at this time.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 3-5+ years of Java backend development experience, with strong hands-on experience in Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, JPA/Hibernate, Maven/Gradle, JUnit/Mockito, and API integration.
• Strong experience with SQL and relational databases, including database design, queries, joins, indexing, and performance optimization.
• Hands-on development on Rules engine like Drools, Kogito
• Hands-on coding experience with C/C++.
• Strong experience working in Linux environments, including command-line tools and shell scripting.
• Experience with GitHub repository management and the GitHub CLI.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, including deploying, managing, or troubleshooting containerized applications.
• Experience working with Microsoft Azure cloud services and infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted software development, including:
• Practical experience using Claude Code or OpenAI Codex in software engineering projects.
• Regular, day-to-day use of GitHub Copilot for development.
• Experience in the dental and/or medical insurance industry, particularly with insurance claims processing.
• Candidates located in or near Oakland or San Francisco, California are preferred.
• Rule Engine experience (Kogito/Drools preferred).
