Job Description

Job Title: Machine Vision Engineer
Industry: Manufacturing
Location: Corning, NY

Client Overview

This role is with a large global manufacturer of specialty materials and technology, based at a manufacturing site in Painted Post, New York. You'd be joining a process engineering team focused on developing and improving the optical and computer vision based measurement systems used on the production floor, working across development, quality, IT, purchasing, and operations groups to bring new inspection and measurement technology into full manufacturing use.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and implement optical and computer vision based measurement and instrumentation systems
  • Work with development, quality, IT, purchasing, and operations teams to define project needs
  • Transfer new technology from early development into production ready systems
  • Manage supplier relationships for key technologies, including scopes of work, quotes, purchase orders, and invoice approval
  • Design experiments and analyze data to improve measurement systems and production processes
  • Create and update technical documentation, including machine specifications, operating procedures, and drawing packages
  • Train engineering, maintenance, and operations staff on measurement system use and upkeep
  • Provide remote and onsite troubleshooting using performance data from installed systems

What We Need From You

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Physics, Optics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • 3 or more years of hands on experience with machine vision or metrology equipment
  • Experience in computer vision system development, including optics, lighting, cameras, image acquisition, and image analysis
  • Working knowledge of image processing algorithms such as blob analysis, edge detection, morphology, and feature extraction

Preferred/Bonus

  • Experience with image processing software such as Halcon, Matrox Inspector, NI Vision, Cognex, Keyence, or the Matlab image processing toolbox
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch
  • Experience with PLCs and control systems
  • Background in process engineering, including design of experiments and statistical process improvement
  • Experience integrating motion control on imaging platforms
  • Familiarity with high performance computing systems
