Job Description
Data Integration & BI Platform Developer
who can help modernize and optimize their current data environment.
This is not just a BI report-building role.
They need someone who can work across SQL, data pipelines, BI, Azure/Fabric-style tools, and business requirements to help organize, standardize, and optimize what already exists.
The team has existing pipelines and reports, but the platform needs more vision and structure. This person will help assess the current architecture, identify what should be fixed or rebuilt, determine whether tools like Azure SQL are still needed in the flow, and help build a roadmap for a cleaner, faster, more scalable data platform.
The client is open to someone earlier in their career if they have strong SQL skills, good technical aptitude, curiosity, and a genuine desire to master data engineering.

Team Environment
Team Size
This is a small team.
The person will primarily work with:
1 key data/platform person
1 BI Analyst
They will also work closely with the business, which will frequently come forward with requests such as:
“I need this report.”
The role needs someone who can translate business asks into a better data solution, not just quickly build a one-off report every time.
Business Interaction
The business will come with reporting needs, operational questions, and new project requests. This person should be able to ask:
What business problem are we solving?
Is this really a report need, or is there a data/process issue underneath?
Does this data already exist?
Is the pipeline reliable?
Should we build something reusable?
How does this fit into the broader roadmap?
Can we automate this?
Can we make it faster?
Can we avoid creating another one-off process?
This is important because the client wants to be more intentional in what they build.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Platform Assessment
Take inventory of existing pipelines, reports, data flows, integrations, and dependencies.
Review the current data architecture and identify what is working, what is fragile, and what needs to change.
Help create a clear map of the current-state data environment.
Identify duplicated, outdated, manual, or inefficient processes.
Evaluate whether current tools and steps, including Azure SQL, are still needed or should be redesigned.
Pipeline Optimization and Standardization
Organize, standardize, and optimize existing data pipelines.
Improve pipeline performance, reliability, and maintainability.
Add or improve logging, error handling, validation, and monitoring.
Identify pipelines that should be fixed, refactored, rebuilt, or retired.
Help make the environment more consistent and supportable.
Roadmap and Future-State Design
Help build a roadmap for the future data platform.
Work with the team to define where the platform is today and where it needs to go.
Recommend better design patterns and tools based on business needs.
Support remapping and redesigning parts of the data architecture.
Help establish standards for future data work.
BI and Reporting
Partner with the BI Analyst and business users to deliver reporting and analytics needs.
Build or support Power BI reports and dashboards as needed.
Ensure reporting requests are supported by reliable, well-structured data pipelines.
Help reduce one-off reporting work by creating reusable datasets, models, and reporting structures.
Cloud/Data Integration
Support data integration work across ERP, Workday, Azure SQL, Microsoft cloud tools, and other business systems.
Help modernize file-based or legacy data flows.
Support cloud migration and data platform modernization efforts.
Evaluate which tools are the right fit for each use case rather than building everything the same way.
AI-Assisted Development
Use AI tools thoughtfully to move faster.
Support the client’s interest in AI-assisted development and “vibe coding.”
Use tools like Copilot or similar AI development assistants to accelerate SQL, scripts, Power Apps, documentation, data validation, and prototyping.
Validate all AI-generated work for accuracy, security, and maintainability.
Help the business understand where AI can realistically accelerate delivery.
