Field Service Engineer

Location: Field-Based (Ideal location: Stoke-on-Trent, or within commuting distance of Runcorn, Warrington, and Derby)
Salary: £36k base + Substantial Overtime & Shift Uplifts (worth about £5k) + Company Vehicle (skoda octavia)
We are partnering with a global machine builder to find a hands-on Maintenance Technician / Field Service Engineer.
Backed by a larger global organisation, this company manufactures and supports bespoke high-speed equipment, sortation systems, and robotics for a wide range of clients.

This is a field-basedrole(so lots of paid travel) where you will be highly valued, heavily invested in, and given the autonomy to take ownership of your technical career without corporate bureaucracy.

• Strong Base Salary: Starting at £36k

• Lucrative Overtime Structure: Time and a half during the week, double time on Saturdays, and double time and a half on Sundays and bank holidays.

You will not be stuck working on the same static machinery year after year. The onboarding is entirely exposure-led: your first six months will be heavily based at one of the Cheshire sites, working alongside senior engineers to master complex high-speed machines capable of processing up to 30,000 units per hour.
Once you have mastered the mechanical and foundational electrical aspects of these systems, the company will provide tailored, formal training to elevate your skill set. You will have the opportunity to progress from proprietary module replacements into highly complex automation. Future progression pathways include mastering Siemens PLCs, Profinet, advanced robotics, RFID tracking, and vision-enabled systems (using suppliers like SICK and Datalogic).

Your core responsibilities will span the full machinery lifecycle, including:

• Equipment installation, deinstallation, routine servicing, and breakdown support at customer sites.

• High-level mechanical fault finding and practical electrical diagnostics using meters, onboard diagnostics, voltage checks, and oscilloscope-style traces.

• Working to optimise machine and system performance at customer sites, reducing downtime and improving throughput, reliability, and efficiency.

• Diagnosing performance-related bottlenecks and implementing improvements to increase customer value.

• Documenting performance processes and producing clear technical recommendations for customer and internal reviews.

• You have 23 years of hands-on experience within a production environment working with machines. Ideally most of this experience is mechanical (PPMs, installation etc)

• You are highly capable with practical electrical fault-finding (we can teach you the electrical if you are lacking in this area)

• You have a methodical, data-driven, and proactive approach to problem-solving.

• Formal qualifications are secondary; we are looking for practical intuition, a positive attitude, and the honesty and willingness to learn.
