Position Summary
As an Aluminum Welder at Paradigm Power Delivery, Inc., you will be responsible for performing high-quality aluminum welding and fabrication tasks associated with electrical transmission and substation construction projects. Work includes the installation, modification, repair, and welding of high-voltage aluminum components such as rigid bus systems, bus pipe, jumpers, expansion joint connections, conductor fittings, equipment terminations, support structures, and other substation electrical components. You will work closely with project managers, supervisors, and field crews to ensure safe, accurate, and quality execution of all welding activities. The role requires strict adherence to safety protocols, the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and a commitment to delivering quality workmanship in energized and de-energized utility environments.
Essential Functions
- Perform aluminum welding tasks utilizing MIG and TIG welding processes on substation, transmission, and industrial construction projects.
- Weld, fabricate, modify, and repair high-voltage substation components including but not limited to:
- Rigid bus pipe systems
- Aluminum jumpers and conductor assemblies
- Expansion joints and expansion connection assemblies
- Equipment terminal connections
- Connector pads and mounting plates
- Bus supports and attachment hardware
- Switch, breaker, transformer, and capacitor bank connection components
- Aluminum structural and equipment support members
- Install and weld aluminum bus systems in accordance with project specifications, engineering drawings, manufacturer requirements, and industry standards.
- Interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, electrical layouts, construction specifications, and work orders to ensure accurate execution of welding assignments.
- Measure, fit, align, and assemble aluminum conductors, bus assemblies, and related substation components to required tolerances.
- Inspect completed welds and assemblies for quality, structural integrity, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with project specifications and applicable codes.
- Perform grinding, cutting, beveling, cleaning, and surface preparation required for aluminum welding applications.
- Assist with field modifications and troubleshooting of existing substation conductor systems and equipment connections.
- Work safely in and around high-voltage electrical facilities while maintaining minimum approach distances and following all site-specific safety requirements.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, foremen, electricians, ironworkers, and other craft personnel to meet project schedules and productivity goals.
- Maintain welding equipment, tools, and vehicles in proper working conditions through routine inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment by following company safety procedures, job hazard analysis, and project-specific requirements.
- Adhere to all OSHA regulations, utility owner standards, environmental requirements, and Paradigm Power Delivery policies regarding health, safety, and quality.
- Accurately complete daily reports, quality documentation, weld records, and other project-related paperwork as required.
- Travel to project sites and work overtime, weekends, or extended schedules as required to support project execution.
Position Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience welding aluminum rigid bus systems and high-voltage substation components.
- Strong knowledge of aluminum welding techniques, including MIG and TIG.
- Ability to read substation construction drawings and electrical connection details.
- Previous experience with bus pipe installation, jumper fabrication, expansion assemblies, and equipment terminations.
- Familiarity with safety practices and procedures in the welding field.
- Excellent attention to detail and quality control.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Must be willing to undergo a welding skills test as part of the application process.
