Job description

We are seeking a Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) Modeler to join a team supporting a mission-critical national security program. In this position, you will design, develop, and maintain SysML-based system models. You will collaborate with systems engineers, software engineers, architects, and government stakeholders to ensure the digital engineering environment accurately represents the operational and technical baseline, driving design and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and evolve models representing system architectures, requirements, behaviors, and interfaces.
  • Translate stakeholder needs and system requirements into model elements.
  • Establish and enforce modeling conventions, patterns, and best practices.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of digital system architectures.
  • Integrate MBSE models with requirements management tools to maintain traceability.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to derive requirements and validate designs.
  • Generate model-based reports and visualizations for technical reviews.
  • Support verification and validation activities.
  • Participate in on-site meetings with customers to present model content.
  • Contribute to process improvement for MBSE and digital engineering.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience: 5+ years of experience in systems engineering for complex systems, with 3+ years focused on MBSE modeling.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in capturing program architecture in Cameo.
  • Hands-on experience with MBSE tools such as Cameo/MagicDraw, IBM Rational Rhapsody, or Enterprise Architect.
  • Proficiency in SysML (requirements, block definition, internal block, activity, sequence, state machine, parametric diagrams).
  • Experience integrating models with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, JIRA).
  • Understanding of systems engineering lifecycle processes.
  • Ability to work onsite and coordinate with teammates.
  • Strong communication skills for presenting complex model concepts.
  • Must be professional, coachable, and solution-oriented.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience supporting DoD or Intelligence Community (IC) programs.
  • Experience implementing Digital Engineering strategies.
  • Familiarity with UAF/DoDAF or other architecture frameworks.
  • Experience with model version control (e.g., Git, SVN, Teamwork Cloud).
  • Knowledge of software-intensive or service-based architectures.
  • Exposure to cloud and container technologies (AWS/Azure, Kubernetes, Docker).
  • INCOSE ASEP/CSEP/ESEP or vendor tool certifications.
