Quick overview
Job description
Your new company
This is a well-established and highly regarded education organisation with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality learning and creating positive outcomes for its students. Operating across multiple sites, the organisation provides a broad range of academic, vocational and professional learning opportunities and has continued to invest in the quality of its services and facilities. Technology plays an important role in supporting the organisation's day-to-day operations and future development, with a diverse IT environment spanning networking, server infrastructure, cloud services and cyber-security. You will join an organisation that values continuous improvement and provides the opportunity to work within a complex, modern technology environment where security, resilience and reliability are key priorities.
Your new role
Reporting to the Head of IT, as IT Security & Infrastructure Engineer, you will take a leading role in developing, implementing and maintaining the organisation's cyber-security arrangements, helping to protect its systems, networks, digital services and information. You'll be responsible for monitoring and responding to security threats and vulnerabilities, strengthening security controls and supporting areas including identity and access management, endpoint protection, network security, patching, backups and disaster recovery. Alongside security, you'll provide senior-level technical expertise across a varied infrastructure environment, including Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware, networking, firewalls and enterprise storage. This is a broad, hands-on role where you'll combine cyber-security expertise with infrastructure engineering, working with colleagues and external partners to ensure the organisation's technology environment remains secure, resilient and reliable. You'll also provide technical guidance to the wider IT team and contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of IT services. Please note this role is on site 5 days a week, based in the Stoke-on-Trent area.
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you'll need a strong technical background in IT infrastructure and cyber-security, with significant hands-on experience working within complex IT environments. You'll have practical knowledge of security monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response and implementing effective security controls, alongside strong experience across Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware, networking, backup and business continuity technologies. You'll be a confident troubleshooter with the ability to investigate complex technical and security issues, communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues, and take a proactive approach to improving security and resilience. A relevant cyber-security qualification or recognised security training would be beneficial, alongside a commitment to keeping your technical knowledge up to date.
What you'll get in return
In return, you will be joining this well-established IT team in a reputable organisation, where the next few years are going to be very exciting from an IT & Technology perspective. You will be working alongside experienced individuals and have the opportunity to undertake further professional qualifications, funded by the college. In addition, you will receive 35 days holiday (plus bank), a local government pension scheme and various additional benefits.
