Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technician/Aide

About the Role
Support mechanical and thermal engineering activities related to the evaluation of AC-DC and DC-DC power supply products. This role involves building and modifying custom thermal and mechanical test fixtures, assembling test setups, operating laboratory equipment, collecting test data, and collaborating with engineering teams to resolve product and testing challenges.
Responsibilities

• Assist engineers in the creation and assembly of custom thermal and mechanical test fixtures by sourcing and fabricating mechanical, machined, hardware, and plumbing components for liquid-cooling applications.
• Support the thermal evaluation of AC-DC and DC-DC power supply components and modules.
• Prepare power supply modules for testing by installing test leads, thermocouples, and related components.
• Assemble power supply modules into custom test fixtures incorporating thermal management solutions, electrical wiring, and digital communication interfaces.
• Set up electrical test equipment to measure and record voltage, current, power, and temperature.
• Capture thermal and electrical performance data using semi-automated test equipment.
• Prepare and organize test data for presentation using Microsoft Excel.
• Maintain inventories of mechanical and electrical test equipment and track calibration schedules.
• Access internal databases to obtain product specifications and production test information.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve product performance and test setup issues.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent.
• 4 to 7+ years of experience in an Engineering Aide or Technician role.
• Hands-on experience fabricating parts for laboratory-scale test fixtures using manual machine tools.
• Ability to operate mill drills, band saws, tap and die sets, calipers, and gauges to prepare or modify copper and aluminum blocks and heat sinks for thermal testing.
• Ability to solder components to printed circuit boards and create wiring and cabling assemblies for test setups.
• Extensive knowledge of hardware, fasteners, fittings, and sourcing components from industrial suppliers.
• Familiarity with fluid and temperature measurement devices and techniques, including chillers and thermoelectric cooling plates.
• Ability to set up liquid-cooling systems, cold plates, and chiller plumbing with pressure and flow measurement devices.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple engineering disciplines.
• Proficiency with electronic laboratory instruments, including voltmeters, ammeters, power supplies, power analyzers, electronic loads, and data acquisition units (DAQs).
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and perform required tasks with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills, flexibility, creativity, and initiative in a dynamic environment.
• Working knowledge of AC and DC electrical circuits and power systems.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, engineering drawings, technical prints, and dimensional tolerances.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with LabVIEW, SolidWorks, and FLIR Thermal Studio.
• Experience using FLIR thermal cameras and oscilloscopes.
• Understanding of heat transfer principles and thermal resistance concepts.
