PHP Software Engineer - Contract

Duration: 8 weeks (2 months) potential extensions
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Fully Remote
Rate: Up to 500 to 530 per day per day (Inside IR35)


The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced PHP Software Engineer for an initial 2-month fully remote contract, supporting the modernisation and replatforming of an existing business application.

You will be responsible for upgrading the application to PHP 8.x, migrating its database to Azure Database for MySQL and updating key integrations. Working alongside technical stakeholders, you will resolve compatibility issues and help deliver a fully tested production release.


Key Responsibilities

  • Upgrade and modernise existing PHP applications to PHP 8.x.

  • Migrate databases from MariaDB to MySQL/Azure.

  • Identify and resolve application compatibility issues.

  • Develop and maintain automated tests using PHPUnit.

  • Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using Azure DevOps.

  • Work with Docker and containerised applications.

  • Update identity, authentication and cloud storage integrations.

  • Validate migrations and provide technical handover documentation.


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong PHP development experience, including PHP 8.x upgrades.

  • Advanced MySQL/MariaDB skills, including database migration.

  • Automated testing experience, particularly PHPUnit.

  • Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Docker and containerisation.

  • DevOps experience.

Desirable:

  • LDAP, OIDC or SAML integrations.

  • Azure Storage and cloud-based file storage.
