We are looking for an experiencedย Senior Software Engineerย with strong expertise inย Laravel, PHP, and backend engineeringย to design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems.
The role is suited for an engineer who can take ownership of complex backend requirements, contribute to system architecture, build reliable APIs and services, and drive engineering initiatives from design through production. You will work closely with product, frontend, QA, DevOps, and other engineering teams to deliver robust technology solutions that support business growth and evolving customer needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend applications usingย PHP and Laravel.
- Build clean, reusable, secure, and maintainable backend services and application components.
- Design and develop robustย RESTful APIsย and integrations with internal and external systems.
- Translate functional and technical requirements into scalable backend solutions.
- Contribute to backend architecture, system design, and technology decisions.
- Design and optimise database schemas, queries, indexes, and data-access layers.
- Integrate backend applications with third-party services, APIs, and other enterprise systems.
- Optimise application performance, scalability, reliability, and resource utilisation.
- Identify and resolve complex production issues through structured debugging and root-cause analysis.
- Implement appropriate security practices across APIs, backend services, authentication, authorisation, and data handling.
- Write unit, integration, and automated tests to ensure application quality and reliability.
- Participate in peer code reviews and promote clean coding standards, design principles, and engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, QA, DevOps, and other stakeholders to deliver features end-to-end.
- Support CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, production releases, and application maintenance.
- Identify opportunities for refactoring, automation, performance improvements, and technical debt reduction.
- Mentor junior and mid-level developers and contribute to technical knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Maintain technical documentation and contribute to architecture and design reviews.
- Stay current withย Laravel, PHP, backend architecture, cloud-native development, and modern software engineering practices.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- 5+ years of professional software development experienceย with strong hands-on expertise in backend engineering.
- Strong proficiency inย PHP and Laravel, with experience building production-grade applications.
- Proven experience designing and developingย RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles, and clean architecture.
- Experience designing and working with relational databases and writing efficient SQL queries.
- Strong understanding of application performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs and external systems.
- Hands-on experience with automated testing, debugging, production troubleshooting, and performance optimisation.
- Familiarity withย Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, cloud platforms, and modern development workflows.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum or similar software development environments.
- Strong understanding of backend application architecture and scalable system design.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with strong attention to code quality and maintainability.
- Experience conducting code reviews and mentoring other developers.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to independently own complex technical deliverables and drive them through development, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Bachelor's degree inย Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related disciplineย is preferred.
